Question Best Pellet? That they will actually eat...

Ok, I tried the Zupreem Avian Antrees with my CAG and since his other seed is mostly sunflowers - yuck - I have made up my mind that he is going to be switched to pellets. I have actually seen him go to the bowl of pellets and eat them first then go to the seeds after but here's what I want to know because I'm not into wasting money.....

Everybody give me their suggestions on the best pellets and size to give and what everybody has the best luck with them actually eating and liking. Plus is there a pellet that is best for Greys that meets their requirements?

Thank you - Natalie

...don't know about Grays, but my Amazon, Pionus, 'tiels, budgies and finches will all eat the Zupreem Maintenance (no colour added) pellets...

...supplements with fresh foods and a dried fruit/seed mix...

...seems the best nutritional option I can offer them...

Here is a link to a recent thread about Zupreem Avian Entrees pellet blend. There are some opinions in there about that particular brand.

http://www.birdboard.com/forum/thread15034.html

My cag eats a mixture of Zupreem maintenance fruity blend (small pellets), zupreem maintenance spicy (small pellets), and Zupreem avian entrees hot and spicy (medium size). I have tried Harrison's which she wont eat, but is considered one of the top pellet brands, and Hagen's Tropican, which she ate a little bit of, but discarded in favor of zupreem. Zupreem is a lot easier to find than harrison's and hagen's, at least where I live, and it's not too expensive.

Harrison's is widely considered to be the best out there. It is expensive, but they guarantee that your bird will eat it... I'm sure that's not always the case, but it's worth a shot.

My birds eat Zupreem because it is affordable and they like it.

My CAG and Macaw eat Zupreem Natural and my TAG and Cockatoo eat Zupreem Fruit.

I have tried to get all four to eat the same,Fruit or Natural and they want no part of it.

I have tried other pellets and they thought I was trying to poison them.

They are healthy and maintain good weight so I will give them what they like.

My grey wouldn't touch Harrison's. All my birds eat Zupreem, Fruity or Natural. Seymour will only eat natural. We find that the parrot/conure size has less waste. We noticed when we bought the larger size the macaws bit each piece in half and dropped half to the bottom. I don't have foragers and so the stuff on the bottom gets tossed out to the yard birds. We do not feed just pellets. They all get seed mix once a week. If your bird has never had anything but seed mix, do not try to force pellets. Start slowly, greys are arnery little cusses. I almost starved mine to death(well not literally, cause hubby was slipping her some seed on the side) when I tried to convert her to pellets. Remember to offer fresh foods too.

Our macaws always have a mixture of Harrison's Pepper Lifetime Formula and the ZuPreem Avian entrees (spicy and veggie).

I don't have a grey but I use zupreem also my birds wouldn't eat the Harrison's at all I really tried but they seem to like zupreem. As far as getting them to eat it it's along process I would just give a little in his dish with the seed so he starts seeing that it is food and then start trying to convert him.

None of my birds would eat the Harrisons. Cleo the CAG came to me eating them (daily maintenance) and I removed them from her diet. Within 10 days, she started to refeather. I'm not bashing Harrisons, but its not the be all, end all pellet either. I just think that if you still have to offer fresh foods, then pellets for me are simply a waste. I wish it were not so, but it seems to be. JMHO
