The Big Day

Ok, so today was the big day, Oscar went into boarding. My goodness, I may only be 21, but my 13 year old fid sure puts me through a lot. I spent all morning packing up his favorite toys, food and even his sleep perch to make his week away as pleasant as possible. This is after, of course, an extremley restless nights sleep wondering what I would do without my baby boy around. Oy, what's a gal to do?
SO I got him all set to go and even put on his favorite cd in the car so we could sing along on the way to his new home away from home. We sang and laughed merrily while sitting in traffic and the entire time he was blowing me kisses. Now comes the fun part.
I park in front of the store and he starts yelling with all of his might. Now keep in mind, we make a trip to this store at least once a month and he always loves it. As we walk upstairs he tries his hardest to charm me with his sweet little duck quack, but to no avail. He knew mommy wasn't going to fall for it this time.
Finally I got him all checked in and we go to put him in his new temporary cage. Now tell me, what does this little booger do? He runs as fast as his little feet can carry him to the top of this 6 foot tall cage and starts doing his dance. The Eclectus in the cage next door starts lung at Oscar, who in response gets closer and closer to his new neighbor. I'm telling you he was just asking to lose a toe.
I ended up having to climb a ladder to get a hold of him, and finally get him inside the cage. I closed the cage door and told him I love him. As I walk away he lets out his pathetic little cry. With each step I took towards the door his cry (which sounds more like a moan) gets louder and louder. Finally I step outside and get into my car feeling like the worst mommy alive.
Now the question is, do I go back and visit him tomorrow so we can play his new favorite game again?

Oh Lord! I would have never made through the door. You've got a stronger will than I do. It probably will just confuse him if he sees you and you don't take him home.

How long is Oscar going to be there? I agree with Kim - I think it would be confusing for the little one.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking...Oscar will be gone for 1 week because we are bombing our apartment today. Hopefully all will go well, let's just say that when I go to pick him up he's going to be showered with toys. That is if he even wants to talk to me by that time

Oh boy, that's a tough one. I was invited to Florida for xmas and I declined because I don't want to be without my Pumpkin (and don't care who knows it). The idea of leaving my baby is heartbreaking. I have only had him for 4 months and I think he's only 8 months. I just can't do it. Maybe, next xmas.
Good luck!

Your baby Oscar will be home soon. I wouldn't go to visit either because they are so emotional these sweet birds(imho).Be prepared he may dis you for a day or 2 That's what my goffin does to my step-father any time he leaves for a few days.Your baby is very beautiful and is making me ache to go visit my Cosmo at my mom's house!

Let me be the devil's advocate for a moment. If you go back to visit him, and try to comfort him, are you prepared to go through the separation again? How long would you visit him and play his games, because it sounds like he'll want more attention than just a few minutes.

Back to my opinion, I would never have made it out the door without crying.

If I go back and visit I'd definatley stay for mare than a few minutes, but I think I'm going to stay away. Kind of get him used to the concept that I'm not the only person in this world. He's a rescue and has never bonded to anybody except for me, so needless to say there are some deep seeded issues aside from just not wanting me to leave. Who knows, maybe after all is said and done this will be a learning experience for the two of us.
