It's cool whitewing, I didn't take them as confrontational:)

I wouldn't want to use such a cabinet as an aviary, it would be strictly for hand-raised pet birds. The whole front slide as an oppening, aswell as a smaller side access for a seed/water shelf.

It's a shame that so many people seem to see them as a negative thing, rather than an innovation on a hand-raised bird cage. I guess I can't change that.

Just so you know, there wont be anything aviary about my cabinet, and I would definately consider myself a bird lover!

I think birds need lots of fresh air. I don't like plexy glass cages at all.

The cage would be made out of mostly wire and wood from my understanding...

Still, depending on the type of wood would depend on how long it could last... as metal would surely last longer than wood.

Yeah that tank was purely describing the cabinet side of things, sorry for the confussion.

To put it simply, the inside of the cabinet would be metal edges and wire sides with a fully covered-edge back piece - bird proof.

The parts which are made of wood will last as any other piece of furniture, minus minor repairs, can last a very very long time! And look great.

Jim, That cabinet you made looks great. Did you end up finishing it? I notice you went for a fully wire sides as opposed to a covered back - this was intended to be a free standing cabinet vs. one placed against a wall?

nope, it was placed against a wall and I went with all wire for climbing purposes. It gave them four walls to climb. But it did leave a mess on the wall.
I never did finish it as my birds played on it as much as in it so I built it out of easily replaced 1 x 2. Which oddly they never chewed.
