Exclamation Ollie's Poop

Ollie just pooped a big purple poo! I can't think of anything she has eaten recently that would have done this. Occasionally after she eats pomegranate her poo will be redish-the first time this happened I thought she was passing blood! But it has never been this color before. It is not abnormally runny, and the (can't think of what it is called) is white like it is supposed to be. But the actually poop and the normally clearish stuff is purple.

I know if she was ill she would be hiding it, but she appears completely normal, has not lost any weight ( I weigh her every morning), and is right now playing with her toys.

Should I be worried?!?!

Does she eat colored pellets? If so, maybe she's eaten a lot of red and blue ones lately...?

Watch her for 12 hours. If that is the only symptom, you can afford to wait awhile and see if the poops go back to their normal color.

Yes, they are colored Zupreem. The red are her favorite, she eats all of them before anything else. But there aren't any blue ones...

Her poo is often tinted different colors, but I was worried because this one was really purple! She hasn't pooped again yet, but I'm watching for it!

Thanks for replying Alika!

Maybe she injested some of the dye from one of her toys- mixing from the coloring of the pellets causing purple. Have you given her a new toy lately?

I've gotten purplish poops out of Zupreem before.

With such a weird color, it almost has to be something she ingested. Dark green and black are usually the danger colors. As long as the consistency is good and the parts are separate and she is showing no other symptoms, and as long as the poop goes back to normal before she eats again, I think you're okay.

Actually I did, but it is plastic. That couldn't be it, could it? She has been playing with it all afternoon and tearing it apart, but not ingesting it that I can see. Maybe I should watch her closer!

Everything looks normal except for the color. I sure wish she's poop again. Normally she drives me crazy pooping every 5-10 minutes. I think she KNOWS I want her to poop so she's is holding it. The little stinker!

Okay, so she just pooped a perfectly normal poo!! *Big sigh of relief*

Thank you both so much, I was really worried! Its so hard to monitor their droppings when everything they consume turns it different colors! My tiel refuses to eat anything but seed, not even fresh foods, so his poo is really easy to monitor!

I think this is the first place I've ever been able to read about (and talk about) poop without people giving me dirty looks.

I'm glad Ollie's poop is back to normal.

I'm glad everything is okay.

It's always better to panic and have it be nothing, then to ignore it and have it be something. I can't tell you how many times I've called my vet on her emergency cell in a panic over NOTHING.
