Calling all Aussies! Question about kookaburras...

I am revising my species profile/information sheets for the area handbook at work, and I have run into a bit of a snag. According to my research, kookaburras are found in eastern Australia and Tazmania, but my boss thinks she's heard that they have been introduced to other parts of Australia and are now widespread.

I will continue to look for data that supports this, but I thought you native folks might know... or not... ?

Feel free to contribute even if you're not from Australia!

I think they are spread all over Australia. I have heard people from WA complain about them. We Queenslanders like them, I hear them outside my window all the time-God only knows I give them plenty to laugh at!

Gee I thought they were all over Australia except maybe not the desert. I will ask my daughter if they have any in Alice Springs. I have always lived on the eastern coast so cannot speak for the western coast. We have them here and I was handfeeding one for a few weeks until it stopped comming over for a free feed.

Thanks guys.

The only information I seem to be able to find says eastern australia, but recently introduced to the far south western corner...? The range maps I've found indicate the same, but my boss insists they are all over Australia now.

they are definately in Western Australia.. in the forested parts anyway.. which isnt much really. probably most coastal areas (but cant be positive).. lots in south west country regions east of the capital city - Perth.

I just moved from Perth. I miss it
