Papaya was adopted and I feel awful

The nicest guy came today and adopted Papaya. His Indian ringneck that he had for 40 years recently died so he knows about birds. I know Papaya is going to a good home but I took him out of the cage he was in with Mango and put him in a temporary cage for when the guy showed up. Then I took him out of the cage and put him in a really nice bird box but I feel awful. Mango is now alone and doesn't know what happened to Papaya and Papaya is in a box and doesn't know what's going on. I know they will both find really good homes and bond with their humans but I also felt this way when I first brought Tiki home and knew she was nervous being ina strange place.

The original post is that I had 2 lovebirds that I took over feedings for from a breeder. I took them in with the intention of rehoming them. I just felt bad because I know Mango is wondering where Papaya is. I tried to get the guy to take both but he ony wanted one.

You shouldn't feel bad, you know Papaya has gone to a loving home. I'm sure s/he had a wonderful life in your care.

I had almost the same thing happen to me when my guinea pig, Babe, passed on. My rabbit and Babe were born on the same day together, and we bought them together. They lived in the same cage their entire lives and were like sisters. Then when Babe died, Oreo had no idea where she went and was depressed for weeks.

I wonder what it's like for them...

Oh well. Take heart in knowing she had good times with you and Mango. Its all you can do.

Yes you are right, and one good thing is that they were only together for 3 weeks AND I would take them out individually to work with them so for all Mango knows, Papaya is coming back. I'm pretty sure animals have no sense of time, I know dogs don't so that ould be a good or bad thing. By the way, your brown head is beautiful, I love the pictures

Sounds like "empty next syndrome". Every living thing needs to move on eventually. Fids go to new homes and babies go to kindergarten. It's difficult at the moment but it will get easier. My heart goes out to you. Lots of love and hugs.

I know it's really hard for you right now. If it helps, try to think of the joy you've brought into the life of this person who adopted Papaya. You've helped to fill a hole in his heart. That's a big thing.
Big hugs to you. You're a good mama to your birds.
