My female parakeet beats the crap out of my male parakeet ???

I feel so bad for my male parakeet named Rebel. Musa the female acts as if Rebel gets on her nerves and she rushes and pecks him until he screams and flees. What's going on ? I know the female parakeet is naturally aggressive but damn, she really whoops his butt. Any suggestions ?

Keev, your being of no help!

Females normally do tend to beat up the males quite a bit. If it seems over-excessive, you can buy another cage and put the male into the new cage and put the cages next to each other. This way each one has their own territory and neither can be hurt.

LOL keev !

Are they normally affectionate to each other except for when she feels bothered by him (I know how that is) ? If not she really may not like him. I would seperate them as Monica said.

I know my Lola gives Skye a run for his money! Personally, I think the playing hard to get (albeit extreme) is why he loves her so much. If your male seems upset and like he's trying to get away then I'd definitely separate them. If he is still pursuing her, well, then he likes a feisty woman!
I've seen Skye sing and croon to Lola while she sits there fretting and finally starts hitting him. It's darn funny, at times

Well thanks for all the replies and funny ones too ! I read in another posts about mirrors. I had two mirrors ! Musa was always in the mirror and I just figured she was obssessed with herself. So I removed the mirrors and will give the couple a week or two.

It's quite possible the female got possessive over her mirrors and enjoyed herself over a real budgie... That's one of the problems with mirrors. Tell us how things go then!
