Call your AV and tell him the symptoms, if you can't get her there......have you tried putting a few drops of white apple cider vinegar in the water? That sometimes clears things up, but don't do it till you've talked to the AV.

Female birds normally have bigger than normal droppings when they are nesting. They don't want to go inside the nest so they hold it all in for a very long time, and then will occasionally come out and go. Like Samm said, if your worried about it, call an AV.

Ok, I just made an appt. with my AV. He's out of town til Thursday so I'll have to wait til then. If she gets worse there's another further away but the vet tech thinks it can wait til Thurs since she's lively and eating well.
I'll keep you all posted.

my female tiels also had real big smelly poos while having babies or eggs in the nest.
Real big, real smelly. I think they hold it in so long, that when they go, you dont want to be around. It's probably more on the normal side............ But if you are thinking she might be sick, I agree that a vet visit is called for.

My other females had nasty poopie, too, but this is really bad. I mean it is liquidy and today it just shot out of her like a super-soaker water gun. It smells foul. I mean, the other times it was more gelatinous (with Donatella and Rainbeau) but this is liquidy. It may be normal for her. I'm concerned because her cagemate died two weeks ago. She was fine afterward but this is alarming me.

I have a tiel with 2 babies right now, I've never smelled anything bad coming from either the nesting box or the cage....if I smelled nasty poop, I'd be concerned....let me know what the AV says, I'm very interested to find out what may cause it.

It appeared to be natural causes/old age. He was fine up until the last hour of life and he just started to weaken and fade away. He died on the way to the vet's. I found out later the avian vet was not in.
I'm just worried. She seems fine and the baby is doing well. She's just going potty a few times a day but it's really loose and smells bad.

Strange poop is one of the first signs of illness in a bird... especially true diarrhea, which is rare.
We had a nail removed from the stomach of one of our birds very recently. He had picked it up off the ground and swallowed it. None of the symptoms were obvious. One of the ones that was more obvious than the others was that his poop looked a little strange. So he went to the vet and... voila... nail. He had to have emergency surgery on his stomach, and is lucky to be alive. Just another day, and we might have lost him... he had a massive infection. Anyway, the point is, that sometimes the littlest things are cause for the greatest concern, and poop is a really big indicator. It seems like you might be over thinking this and second guessing yourself... but you know that he needs to see the vet very soon. Good luck! I hope he gets better.
