Kiwi has gone to birdy heaven....

There was a horrible accident last night. I shut the refridgerator door on my parrotlet and it broke her neck and killed her instantly. She was on her cage eating treat just a moment before. I never even saw her. I drove myself crazy all the time tring to keep her safe and this accident still occured. I cannot begin to explain the feelings I am having. Mostly guilt and failure. Emptiness, extreme sadness. I want to throw up, can't eat. I can't go near the fridge. Even the kitchen is a painful to enter. I do not want another bird. I don't feel I can allow myself to love another after all this. She was sooo tiny, 28 grams, and I couldn't protect her enough. My hubby is being great. She was more attached to him. He firmly believes pets go to heaven but I am not completely convinced on that one. We have family coming in a few days for about 5 days. I am dreading everything. I don't want to go home after work. No birdie to take care of. No cage nite-nite last night. No uncovering and good morning today. I do not know what to do with all her things. I have a beautiful cage being delived today. A few packages of toys on their way. I will wait til after the holidays before deciding anything. I may try to find a rescue to donate to. I commend all of you for allowing these beautiful creatures into your homes and risking losing a beloved pet as it happens , it just does. I wish mine was in a different way. I want to thank everyone for the great advice and entertainment the short time it has lasted. God Bless.

I don't know what else to say but that I'm terribly sorry for your loss I know it's hard to do but you shouldn't blame yourself. Terrible things happen to the best of us, and sometimes all the precautions in the world aren't enough to prevent tragedies. I do hope that you'll find peace soon.

I am glad you are waiting till after the holidays before you decided what you will do. Time can help....please know I am thinking about you and the love you had for your Kiwi.

Maybe one day you can give love onto another bird.....give yourself time.

My heart and thoughts go out to you, I can't imagine what you are going through. Please please don't feel guilty, it was an accident, you didn't do it on purpose and the last thing you need during the grieving process is to feel guilty. Give yourself time to mourn. Those who have pets have all lost them at one time or another, due to different circumstances, so we all know what you are going through. I hope my words have helped, I don't know what more to say except we are all thinking and praying for you to heal. If you need to talk to someone, even a stranger and say all your feelings, PM me. Oh my gosh...I am so sorry for your loss. Like others have said, "Wait to get a new bird." Kiwi was special to you. Once again I am so sorry. I hope Kiwi will be happy in parrot heaven.
