Mynahs?

Anyone have any info on general Mynah care? I might have to bird sit one for a few months while a friends husband goes overseas. She has some things she has to do while he's gone and wants to know if I can watch him.

I found this site:

http://www.mynahbird.com/

I only read one article and it was interesting!

I've encountered 2 mynahs in my life; I recall that one used to call out "grandma" whenever someone walked by its cage

They are really cool. This one is named Mason. He's a big baby, I guess. I think they said he likes to crawl under the covers if they let him on the bed. They said it would only be for two weeks now. So, I guess I will say yes. But these two are still undecided if she is going to be leaving also, so I might not get him at all.

Hi,

This is the first time I have heard anyone mention these birds.
As a kid, I remember they were quite popular. Are these birds as popular now and does anyone ever see them for sale??

Unfortunately, I don't know a lot about them, so I can't help much.

What I do know is that there is a myth about splitting a mynah bird's tongue to get it to talk... they do not need their tongues split to talk, and doing so is cruel.

I also know there are special pelleted diets available for them, but I have no idea if they are highly recommended or not.

I'd imagine, though, that if you are bird sitting the owner will fill you in on all you need to know. You're right that it doesn't hurt to read everything you can, though! I'd start out on google and do some searches on mynahs and their care.

Yes, that's actually where I first heard it.

I also recently heard it in reference to parrots, believe it or not.
