Angry No More Birds!!!!

I have horrible news!!! My b/f and I broke up. And it's for good, trust me...

He took "his" quakers!!!!! He was the one who accepted the boys and they responded best to him, so I was fine with that, but he took the girls too!! In the short time that we had them, I had really bonded with them. He never took care of them, probably doesn't even know what they eat. Now, he thinks he can handle four quakers?!?! I'm hoping that he will get sick of them and give me back the girls, but I doubt it. I don't know what to do without them!!! It's so quiet, all I hear is the tiny, sick teil whistling every now and again.

It's hard and tough living around non-bird people who think they can care for such an 'easy' animal but later learn it's harder than it looks and much more stressfull... Sorry to hear about the quakers, though I hope that at least they aren't hurt in any way!

Sorry to hear about you and your BF and that he took all the Quakers. He should have at least let you keep the girls, that seems fair to me. I hope you get them back. At least you still have the Tiel!

Yes, the teil is doing wonderful too. He is really starting to gain weight. THe poor guys just couldn't eat with that long beak. Poor Sally and Joon, though. They don't need to put up with him any more than I did. At least Pacino and Benny didn't enjoy my company the way the girls did. He makes me SO mad!!!!

I'm not sure what happened, but I got a call from my vet. He told me that Sally came in today with a broken wing!!!! He has her overnight and since the bird is technically in my name, he can't release her to my ex!!!! I am so excited, because even though he hurt her somehow, she will be okay and I can help her heal. Her wing isn't too bad. She won't ever heal completely, but she will be okay. He is keeping her until I get off tomorow and he'll try to get Joon from my boyfriend. As of right now, he's working to get all of the birds removed from the house. I feel so bad that poor Sally got hurt, but now she can be safe with me. I don't think he'll try to fight it, becuase he doesn't want to pay the vet bill. I don't care about the money so long as my Sally is okay.

Oh, poor little Sally! At least she will safely back home with you. I hope you get Joon and the other Quakers too. Maybe you have grounds to threaten to call the RSPCA or whoever does animal protection on him-that might scare him to give you back all the birds.

I agree with the idea of threatening him to get them back, if need be, since they are obviously not very safe. And also, he's probably just taking them all to upset you and "get even" or whatever. In which case, he doesnt want to take care of them and probably wont, but is just taking them for spite.

Also, if this bird is yours "on paper", are the others? If so, and if you can provide documentation from the vet, or a statement from the bird store about who paid for them, they are probably *legally* yours. Even if you cant document it or get legal help, you can still represent yourself in small claims court, which is set up to be accessible and cheap for people to use. They have monetary value, so they are "property" and can be sued for, just like a lamp or the silverware, even if they're not worth a whole lot of money. And the judge would probably split the group of 4 in half, if there's a question of ownership. (And you might even be able to find an attorney who would help you (for free or very cheap) to send a letter to your boyfriend on their official letterhead - check around for free legal clinics etc. That would probably shake him up enough to get them back, without appearing in court over it.) Also, whether you have proof of ownership or not, you can always file a police report for theft, which will send a person in uniform knocking on his door, even if only to investigate. That might get him to hand them over by itself. And in fact, if you can show reasonable proof that they are your "property" it may be that the cops have to take them away from him, until a judge decides. (Likely he'd just give in, long before that.)

If you arent planning or trying to get back together with him, what do you have to lose? Especially considering this one is already hurt! Being a "nice girl" about it isnt going to get you - or more importantly, your poor birds - anywhere or any safety. Some things are worth getting nasty about, and in my own opinion, the safety of pets is one of them. Your boyfriend clearly knew how to make his departure sting, by causing the loss of someone you actually cared about. Which says a lot about his character, including saying that you (and the birds) are certainly better off without him.
