shipping of birds

Forgive me here but of this I have no clue. How does shipping a bird work?
Is it advisable? As with everything under the sun, Eclectus can be found on-line much cheaper then here locally (Monterey California area). But is saving $300 worth it in this situation.
Thanks
Jim

I honestly think it is better to meet a bird in person rather than ship it. If the difference is $300, maybe you could get a cheap ticket on expedia and fly out, meet the bird and bring him home? Some airlines allow caged birds in the cabin.

Like Tiki, I too would rather meet the bird first then to buy it over the internet and never meet to the fid gets to my house. You never know what you are going to get. Breeders will tell you just about anything to make the sale. from they have great personality to good feathering. Which their personality may be great towards them, but not towards you since you are a stranger. Now I am not saying all breeders out there are like that, but there are some that are. Plus you need to also look at that it is getting colder and that makes it more dangerous on the birds. But this is all IMO and you know what they say about opinions

All it took was talking to one breeder about shipping. I asked for a photo of the babies and was told as soon as I paid the deposit I would be sent a photo of my bird. Not even getting to choose. And yes, not being a part of my birds weening process and not being able to visit as it grows untill it can leave the the pet store just didnt sound right to me. Besides I wondered.......the birds first impression of me would be as it comes off the plane...................YIKES!!!
