Rare Mutations in Larger Parrots
Here are some url's to pictures of birds that are just so amazing to look at! I've found these pictures last year, and some of the other information a couple years back.
*Picture of White Scarlet Macaw* *CritterBreeders Lutino Blue & Golds* Hill Country Aviaries *Red Pied Severe Macaw* *Blue Yellow Naped Amazons* *Blue Green Cheek Conure* The green cheek may not be that large, but I just had to add it! Another rare mutation, though of a much smaller bird, would be black budgies. If put in terms of lovebird mutations, I'd have to say that the budgie is a double dark factor, of the cabolt budgie, though I don't know... I learned of the black budgies a few years back, and now can't find the website about them, and just recently looked at a site that had a black (and white) lovebird... The website said that the grey lovebirds where dark factors, or dark blue lovebirds... and they had one that they said was a double dark factor, which appeared to be all black and white, so I am unsure if these budgies are black, or just dark blues, however, I must say that some must be black, as a yellow budgie showed extensive black on his mask.

Monica:
I don't think you have a clue how much these birds will retail for. In fact, the yellow mutations were upwards of a hundred thousand dollars. I cannot imagine what the b/w scarlet would be priced at. Since you can't reproduce them, they are truly one of a kinds. THE OUTLAW

I couldn't even imaging what their price might be! Yes they are rare indeed! The lutino B&Gs though may be a bit less rare if the breeders had any more lutino chicks this year, however, the site has no updates...

The Lutino chicks rocked the bird world about 2 years ago. No one has had any updates in quite a while. In the original picture, they showed the third baby from the clutch, a normal colored BG.

I do still have several of the pictures of Thelma's beautiful B/G mutation. I'd post them again but I can't quite get the new photo albums figured out. But they are on my website in the photo gallery there too.
I've also got some pics of Rick Jordan's (Hill Country Aviaries) Blue Yellow Naped Amazons. They are gorgeous birds. Supposedly one of their babies was sold for $10,000 because it had a hatch defect with it's wings. They are fairly certain that most of the known Blue mutations of the napes are related so there is a large number of genetic problems right now in trying to breed the mutation out. When I was at their place last fall they had two blue chicks in the nursery, both of which had genetic related issues. The mutation is known to occur in the wild as well. Hill Country also has a Cinnamon mutation of the Red Lored Amazon. It was a pretty bird but not nearly as impressive as the Blue napes. Rick and Mark have quite a few color mutations that are very rare. They have several of the blue/turqoise green cheeks, they also have the popular "pineapple" green cheeks. They have a single lutino quaker hen that is breeding very well. There were probably 30+ baby quakers that genetically will be split to lutino. They are raising them to pair up with others to begin producing larger numbers of the lutino quaker. I'm very partial to yellow in birds for some reason so the yellow quaker really caught my eye. There was also an incredible mutation of the Golden Mantel Rosella. It was just breath taking. There's a pic in my gallery as well but it wasn't as clear as I'd hoped. Nothing like the real thing. www.oklahomaparrots.com/gallery.html |
