Manikay fledged!

And I got the whole thing on video! I just sat, there camera ready, I knew he was dying to fledge as he has been flapping his wings all week-I just wanted him to do it on a weekend so I could film it. I'll put the video up later.

Do they know how to fly instinctively or do they have to watch other birds to totally figure it out?

(Sorry if this seems like a stupid question, but I've had cats who were entirely human raised and had a hard time figuring out effective mating positions, so I've learned never to assume a behavior is entirely hard wired.)

Alyce, he had seen Chaska and Tjinimin flying around but he basically did it on his own.

Here are the video clips in 3 parts. The first one he is working up his courage (that took a few "takes"), the second one he is stuck up on a picture rail, the third one he gets down and proudly perches on Mommy's finger.
