Sh*t I'm in love with a Pi
BIG mistake, I went to my favorite bird store so Berk could see the mice. Boy were they cute, he is dying for one Anyway the blue head pionus that was there when I bought Tiki is STILL there and what a sweet heart. I want him bad!! He's $800.

I think I'm gonna call the bird store tomorrow and put a deposit on him. He is a bit shy but let me hold him. He smells sooooooo great and his colors are magnificant. I think he would be a good addition to my flock since he will probably be a bit more mellow than the goffins and the sun. Pionus owners...looking for your input....

I thought that sounded high, too, but what do I know. If you love a bird, they are priceless anyway. Congratulations.

It is a high price according to all my research that I've been doing for hours now...but I happen to know this store, as like many other bird stores does not make their money on the birds but the cages, toys and food. The price is only a slight mark up from what the owner paid for this bird. I suppose I could research some more and find maybe a second hand bird or another place that has them cheaper but when I get a bird it's al based on a connection I feel. I felt it with this bird the last time I was there. I went in to the store to get a sun conure (which I did) but they had the BH pionus, a red belly and a blue quaker also. I was torn between all of them. The red belly is still there as well but has been sold. Boy what a gem, have any of you seen red bellies? The colors are really gorgeous. Almost like a crushed opal. The blue quaker was adorable too but too interested in every little nick and cut on a worker's hand and my nails were painted red at the time and already he ws driving me crazy. Then there was the blue pi, but he was $800 and I wasn't prepared to spend that AND as one of the women at the store told me, "if I came in for a sun then I should go home with one since I will always wish I got a sun". So I left with the sun. But he's still there, the pionus that is. I loved how solid he is, his neck had dense feathers and he really is gorgeous in color. Remember a post not too long ago entitled, "what do you think the most underrated parrot is?" Well I think it is the pionus. He needs a bit of work cuz he clearly didn't feel comfortable with me but I was wearing a suede jacket and some jewelry and of course he doesn't know me. So I'm gonna call tomorrow. I am just so sure this bird is meant to be with me. I know I'll hardly be able to sleep tonight

I do believe I have seen a pair of red bellies before that came all the way up from Las Vegas! I did keep stairing at them as they intrigued me some!
Let us know how things go!

Well that is a bit steep on the wallet! I don't know is the prices in your area are elavated, but the usual price of a BHP in CA is 500.00. Of course if you are already in love.....who can put a price on love? Then again, if you got a baby bird directly from a breeder--wouldn't you love it??
You must make THAT decision LOL!! You couldn't go wrong with a Pi and yes they smell wonderful! I have a pair of Blue Head and they have been in and out of the nest box lately so I have my fingers crossed! They are fun, chunky little birds! They love the spray bath and enjoy scritches and can learn a few words too!! Beautiful birds too and they look even prettier under a full spectrum light! Here's a pic of my boy.

Christy, he is spectacular. Any suggestions as to male vs. female. Not that it matters cuz if I get this little guy I'm calling him a male unless he ends up laying an egg at some point. I never realized how beautiful their colors are. I wish you were closer because I'd wait until your 2 had babies but this guy has been at this shop for a while now. I'm sure she'll give me a good deal, especially if I buy a cage from her as well, she'll probably give me 20% off. I can't wait to smell him again. I'm going there tomorrow either way to spend some time with him.

I couldn't tell ya between the two sexes, because my pair is set up for breeding and hands off. *sposed to be anyway heehee! Hunter was obviously a pet at one point before I got him as part of a pair because he's a sweetheart. My Asia is a parent raised bird, but I'm sure I could win her over pretty easily if I wanted to tame her--very sweet personality. I don't know if it the "sweet" personality or the "sweet" smell, but lots of pionus get called "Sweetie Pie"
