ok ok, i'm just a spaz

Ok, here it is, I do all this research on Ekkies, comes down to either an S.I. or Vos. So I ask around and decide on a S.I. You all are with me right? Found one for the unbelievable price of $650. BUT!! I would not be able to visit her as she gets weened like I would want to. Never mind the 2.5 hour drive to do so. So I go to my local bird store, she used to have an aviary with her now ex.....there fore the bird store, he got the aviary, she just got in two little bitty S.I. so young can't even tell sex yet. She starts telling us all about something with the toe in the egg getting tied and blowing up and needs to be cut off (?????) and the parents plucked them so they may be pluckers too......... any way I went out to the local aviary to see if he had some babies and less tales!!
I am quite intuitive about many things and although nothing felt "wrong" about the other possibilities, this last one just felt so right!! Anybody still with me? You all sleeping? well anyway, to make a long story short (oops too late heheh ) This young lady in the pictures is our new addition, the REAL Sophie. She is also a Red Sided Eclectus and still a month or two away from being weened.

Not too late and it sounds like you did the right thing. If a breeder does not encourage a possible owner to visit then I would stay away from that breeder.

Even the possibility of exposure from an outside person is not a reason for any reputable breeder to keep a potential owner from visiting - and if you were willing to drive......... (I got my rf macaw from Wendy's Parrots who is one of the board macaw experts - visiting was very highly encouraged, I spent a whole day visiting and learning before I brought him home - I was not able to visit in person as over 8 hours was bit far to drive, but we kept in contact by phone and internet and I watched him grow!)

Well Congrats on the new addition and sounds like you made a great choice.

Very nice looking bird! I know you are tickled and I'm glad you found one that is close enough for you to visit.

Hmm. I don't think its a Redsided. It may be a cross (hybrid). The Redsided's that I've seen have solid black beaks. May be crossed with an SI or Vos. Still, she's breathtaking! Congratulations.
