Question Old phone books safe?

I am pretty sure I have heard before that old phonebooks are safe for our birds to chew.... so me being the good parront that I am I gave Mercy the CAG one- never seen a bird so interested in chewing in cardboard and the like before. She has been ripping into it (took off the glossy cover first), but just wanted to doublecheck that phonebooks are safe....seems with all the coloring (yellowpages) they might hold some harmful toxins in the dye...???? I checked out some sites before giving it to her, but just wanted your guys opinions to ease my mind...
thanks!

I use them, too. My 'zon loves them! We also use them for a variety of birds at the aviary, and have fore years without problems. Enjoy!

Yup, Moosie loves ripping them up; I first bought one from our pet store that a lady had made cut into 3 inch stripes with a hole punched in the top and some sisal rope attached for hanging in the cage. I put them on her play top, she loves them and can play for hours ripping and tearing, a real shredding machine she is!
