Wink Can't keep him satisfied....

Higgins is too darn smart for his own good! He gets bored so easily, that I have a hard time keeping up with him sometimes. I noticed he was acting really bored in his cage, so I "purged" it, swapped in new stuff- but the little brat spent all day LITERALLY whining, and hanging out in one corner of his cage! I guess his highness doesnt approve! Back to the drawing board for another shot at it tomorrow then!
Of course, I do all the enrichment type keep-his-mind-busy-things he gets a piece of cardboard every now and then, I thread paper through the cage bars for him to chew on, he has natural perches to chew on, in addition to wood, leather, beaded, sisal, whiffle ball (basically any and every toy) that you can imagine... and yes, he has those treat toys- the rubber one with holes in it- I stick peanuts in there for him to get, also a Jungle Talk trick stick holder, I put his food on a skewer... but still, the bird gets bored! Too smart for his own good, I tell ya!

Hmm - I had a bunch of bored birds and I gave them some natural sticks & branches, from a bird safe tree. (And washed off of course, because I'm a paranoid new mom.) They loved it. Just sticks and leaves. Free, too. Sometimes I think it's like human kids - you give them an expensive toy, and they make a fort or play house out of the box it came in and are busy for hours.

Sounds like your bird might be a little overwhelmed by all the new stuff, though. (That part about hanging out in one corner made me wonder.) Maybe try putting most of it back like it was and giving him a new toy a day until things are freshened up? Just a thought.

Togo will act bored and then pitch a fit when I give him a new toy.

One EASY thing I've found that he likes is paper. He likes to hold a wad of paper and chew on it (fiber, perhaps?).

If you have a paper shredder, maybe try giving Higgins a handful of shredded fun. It's cheap, and no washing required!

It's like kids, I guess. You can give them the greatest toy in the world, and they spend hours playing with the box it came in.

Good luck.

I ended up rearranging the cage not once, not twice, but 3 times! Different toys, perches etc- finally hit the spot. Now to keep him interested for a while so I dont have to go through that again! LOL
