Talking This made me laugh...

I ordered a heated perch for my little conures. I got the small size, which is about 10.5 inches long - it's fairly good sized

Well, today it arrived, and my husband opened the box.
He reached in and fished out the surprise - and found himself holding (straight upright) something more or less cylindrical, 10+ inches long, with a funny looking base on it.

He got a *very* peculiar look on his face! (wish I'd had the camera)
So he says (after a moment of great unease) "Um... Alyce?"

Then, just as I looked over at him (wondering what he was looking so weird about) he turns the package over, sees all the cords, the labeling etc & says (with audible relief) "OH - It's A Bird Perch!"

Well, then I started laughing since it hit me what he had originally thought. Ah the strange ways in which having birds affects our lives...

LMAO! Alyce, I thought exactly the same thing when I first saw one in Bird Paradise in New Jersey! After all, why would we have them (heated perches) here in Brisbane!

Girlfriend, you should have seen his face!
Truly it was a "Kodak moment" - I would so give $$ to have a picture of it.
He had this look, somewhere between confusion & horror.
It was truly hysterical, once I realized why he had been looking that way.

Okay, that's too funny! I don't know if this is appropriate or not, but I'm going to tell it anyways cuz it's funny...two of my friends got married (to each other) several years ago and while they were partying at the reception we wrapped "an item" (what your hubby thought the bird perch was...) in aluminum foil and put it in the bottom of their carry on bag. Of course, it sets the detectors off at the airport and the screener pulled it out an unwrapped it to check it out...I'm sure it was a Kodak moment! My friend said she almost died when the lady pulled it out of her bag and took the foil off of it in front of everyone! She's been threatening to get us back for that one for three years now! Anyway...that's totally unrelated to anything, but your post made me think of that and laugh!

How's that for a modern twist on the ages old game of "embarass the newlyweds"!

I used to work at a very nice hotel, where many weddings were held. While a reception was going on long into the night, and after the newlywed couple had made their exit, someone sent "an item" - plainly visible in a fancy gift box with a bow on top - up with room service to their very chic bridal suite!

Well, all the folks in the kitchen toiling late into the night got a big kick out of it. Probably not what the couple was expecting, when roomservice arrived, though. (I think they did at least have the decency to send it up with some champagne.) But I have to say, your airport story tops that one, hands down!

As for my adventures in perch purchasing, if I had only known how Hubby was going to react, I'd have bought the great big macaw sized one for Berta and I'd have had my camera at the ready! <evil cackle that Berta has taught me>

I do believe my birds are having an unwholesome influence on me - they're bringing out my trickster tendencies...

Lovin' that story. I've got one, too.

Back in the 1960's, my girlfriend's husband worked for Montgomery Ward. They got special employee discounts, so from time to time, when the special sale catalog came out, she would let her friends in on the stuff.

Anyway, she took her 4 year old son to the catalog pick up window to pick up her order (an electric blanket) and the orders for 5 of her friends. She didn't have any idea of what her friends had ordered, but she was picking everything up for them because of course it was in her husband's name.

So, when her orders came up on the conveyor belt, you can imagine her "surprise" when along with her electric blanket, 5 "facial massagers" also appeared. Ironically, the electric blanket was wrapped in brown plastic, but the "facial massagers" were not! Can you imagine how much razzing her poor husband got! And, how really rotten her girlfriends were. Frankly, I was amazed that she actually signed for them .
