Need help locating GA Avian Vets

Hi Everyone,

I need references to excellent avian vets in the Atlanta, GA area. Since I own a quaker (and yes, I realize they are "illegal" in GA), I need a vet that will over look the issue. I also own a WBC. Also, if anyone can recommend a safe and reliable bird sitter service, I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks!

I was just going to post that link until I saw that you have a Quaker. Please be careful as they may be required by law to report him. You might want to consider driving to a different state. If they play hardball, they could confiscate him......or worse.............just please be careful!

I have used Brantley And Jordan Animal Hospital in Macon GA for an emergency situation. (478-757-1600) They have a board certified Avian Vet in their office. The situation about the quaker is sticky. I'm sure that if it needed emergency care, it would be rendered, but they would be bound to report the quaker, and it might be confiscated as contriband and euthanized. Where are you located in GA? And no I'm not fixin' to turn you in.

Please excuse my ignorance, but why are quakers illegal in Georgia?

yeah... I thought about the whole quaker situation. I was going to test the waters with certain vets and mention about a quaker without giving them to much information. I am in the North perimeter area of Atlanta. I was hoping someone might know a vet that would look the other way with me owning a quaker. I moved her from MA where quakers aren't illegal and there was no way I would give her up. I call her a grass parakeet to everyone who doesnt know better. Also too, in GA, you are allowed to breed quakers but you have to pay $260 a year for a lisence. It is crazy, you can breed them but you can't have them as pets.

As for Kristi's question, quakers are illegal in some states because they can become a nusence to agriculture, power lines, etc. Quakers are very adaptible birds and once they get out of the house, they will tend to find other quakers and begin flocks. These flocks grow in large numbers and tend to be annoying and damage electrical units. They have been spotted as far north as Canada in flocks. Pretty good for a warm weathered parrots from South America..

Avian Vet

Quakers are illegal in Ga because people claim they can take out an entire corn
field in a week if they colonize. Very prolific. Try jumping over to Anniston Animal Hospital in Alabama Ph. # 256-236-8912. Dr Nelson is very good but will need you address. A sticky situation indeed.

Hi rpopebirdz - unfortunately this thread is 3 years old. I don't think the OP or Kristi are active on the site anymore.
