adding machine tape holder

I know there is a holder you can buy specifically for the adding machine tape bird toy, but is there anything else I could use to hang it without having to order something off the internet? Right now I just have thin wire going through it, and tied to the cage bars, but she can't unroll it very easily...Any ideas? Or should I just quit being stingy and spring for the holder?

Get a cheapie choker collar and remove one of the circles on the end. Slip it through the tape and use a pear link to secure the ends. Make sure the links are small and replace the circle on the end.

Well I'm going to show my ignorance and ask what a pear link is? I guess I've never heard that term used before...

I think the pear link is the link that holds the toys to the cage...it is bigger on one end than the other...shaped like a pear!

Well I always thought that was a quick link...I'm very ignorant! Pear link does make more sense due to the shape...

You could use a quick link, too. I just happen to have a bunch of pear links, so I think in those terms.

Nancy, if I may ask...what is the difference between the 2? I don't think I've ever seen a pear link before.

I went to Lowe's or Home Depot and bought some 3" stainless bolts, big washers and wingnuts. I slide a washer on the paper roll, two washers and the nut, then hook it to the side of the cage like a perch.

I just run a piece of thin rope through the middle and tie it loosely on the top of the cage. It rolls around some, but the paper unrolls easily. Jesse has unrolled a whole roll of paper in one day. Then sometimes he won't even touch it for days and days.

How about making something from a PVC pipe and string or rope or chain going through it and then you can put the paper roll on that
