Kashi with Honey?

Hey all, seems I'm having a hard time finding the regular Kashi cereal at my local grocery store. Today I broke down and got the Kashi with honey something. I checked the ingredients and it seems to have the same as the plain Kashi, just with honey and cane sugar. (I believe that's it, don't have the box in front of me)

My question is...is this ok for my fids? I mix it with a box of Multigrain Chex and plain Shredded Wheat. I know we're better off staying away from the sugars though. Is this ok to mix in with the other cereals...or should I just chuck it from my mix?

As far as I know, honey is a no-no for our fids. I'm not sure if it would be okay on the cereal, but IMO, I wouldn't take the chance.

I also buy treat bars with honey in them for my Cockatiels, I know that too much of it and sugar is a bad thing, but I didn't think it was so bad that it was a 'no-no'

I believe honey is bad for birds as well as children under 3 because it contains spores that can cause bacteria from the spores. Young children and birds do not have the ability in their bodies to defend from that bacteria.

If a specific bird stick or treat has honey it in it might not be pure honey

That is what I have heard too Lori. Bad for kids and birds. I think a few weeks ago here on Birdboard we determined that those treat bars with honey in them are probably not a good idea to feed to our fids. Like the grit, and sandy perch covers (among other things), even though they are bad, they make money off them and continue to sell them.

Kashi with Honey?

A little honey is okay but the sugar content is not. Birds can become addicted to the honey. Pure honey is the problem.
I would think the honey in those bars go through some kind of processing in manufacturing that would destroy any bacteria. It is a hard coating. Not that I am defending Honey Sticks......just an observation.

wasn't it determined that honey for children under 3 was a no-no because of the botulism risk? something about botulinum spores or such?

and to think the older ones of us here, how many got dosed with the whiskey and honey homemade cough syrup when we were babies and toddlers?
