Are these good enough?
As most of u read from the thread i made in the cockatiel section like 2 weeks ago about my tiel being on an all seed diet because he was afraid of vegs/fruit. Well 2morrow i am going into my local pet shop suppliers and i was looking on the site to see wat they have to offer when it comes to vegetables/fruit treats and stuff and i came across these. I was going to buy him a few of those fruit treat packets.
http://www.pennplax.com/Pages/Bird.p..../Bird23F.html Are they good enough for my tiel to eat or can they harm him? EDIT: Sorry i was meant to make this in the cockatiel section.

Have you tried baking some Birdie Bread? You could get fruits and vegetables into him that way. Sometimes it takes quite a while for a bird to accept new things. Just keep offering them.

Ness, I used to buy those treats (coconut, pumpkin, and pumpkin seed) for my hamster, but something always stopped me from giving them to my birds.
The way the are packaged, like including little pack of silicone, or whatever it is, always bothered me, as well as the dye. This is just personal opinion. I have no basis to say they are good or bad (although my hamster loved them). |

The dried stuff is probably not going to have the same nutrition as fresh veggies and fruits.
here is an article i used to get Wilson, my five year old adopted tiel who had never had fruits or veggies b/4 in his life, to eat his fresh veggies and fruits. So far it is working.: http://www.birdsnways.com/wisdom/ww70eiii.htm

As far as ingredients to steer clear of, i know foods with sulfites as perservatives should not be given, as well as ethyquoxin (i can never spell it). I would reccomend against anything with onion in it as well as anything too high in sugar. if the packaging doesn't have a complete ingredient list on it, like for example it just has a "gauranteed analysis", I ignore it and move on to the next product. i like to know exactly what i'm giving my parrot.

A very wize Parrot owner (The Outlaw)
explained to me why she NEVER purchases such products.1. you have no clue as to how long they have been on a shelf. 2. After a while, they will grow mold and you won't be able to see it. 3. There are tons of preservatives in them. some types of birds cannot deal with that and it can cause some problems. I'm sure there are more reasons, but that is the main ones I remember. Now, these are just "treats" they really won't have much nutritional value. I have a picky tiel, this is what I do: 1. Even if I don't notice him eating anything, I always offer fresh food. 2. try new things as well as the old things. sometimes it takes awhile for them to recognize the stuff as food. 3. try chopping them in different ways. take baby carrots for example: Try: them whole on a kabob - diced in different sizes - chopped in a food processor - thin "toothpick" like sticks. then see if he prefers any of those more than others. I have other birds that WILL eat fresh stuff, and they also learn from watching others. I have found that mine little guys prefer fresh veggies to cooked, but I offer both. and - offer less seed! Oh, another thing I will do is to sit with them and eat it too! this works quite often. especially if you are bonded!!! Don't give up!!!! It's important to get them Hooked on fresh food! I hope this helps!

Those noodles look good, and I offer my cockatiels those coconut and banana fruit chews. They havn't actually eaten any yet but I do not see a problem with them.
But like they said above, they are treats so shouldn't be used as a replacement for fresh veggies and fruits.
