Not a bird person, are you?

OK, these are 2 things that have happened to me this week, that made me think .....

"so you're not a bird person, are you"

1) went to Walgreens to get my film developed. They know me there as the bird lady since my pictures are always birds. The guy that helped me is always very nice & chatty. He asked me what I did to my finger, (which at the time was wrapped in pink vet wrap). I told him I got bit by a Cockatoo..........he said

"Oh yeah, they have sharp fangs"

"it's a parrot", I said, "no fangs, just a beak"

2) Went to Subway today, and the guy asked me what I did to my finger, (which today is wrapped in teal vet wrap...lol) I said, I got bit by a Cockatoo, the pit bulls of the parrot world.....he said

"I didn't know Cockatoo's were parrots. I used to have one, but he freaked me out. His mohawk would always go up when I walked past him"

......so........not a bird person, eh?

No... they are not parrots.... they are just big white poofy birds who shed dust! And have a parrot like beak!

I've been to the store shopping for liquid childrens ibuprofen, on recommendation from the vet. My mother just got home with childrens aspirin, again, vet recommendation. Then I started thinking...

Imagine the faces.... you walk into the store to pick up some baby food that your parrot just LOVES and will do head flips for... you go to the med section to pick up some childrens meds cause your vet was worried about some test results and said that so and so would help... then you head over to the toy section, and pick out some little kiddie toys and other stuff...

Your now heading to the checkout and a nice old lady happens upon you, and noticed all the kids stuff. She asks you "You must have children! What are their ages?". Startled, you then must explain to the nice old lady that no, you do not have children, this stuff (in the cart) is for your birds!

Even better when you buy all these lovely greens and healthy foods for your birds. I buy Bella jalapeno peppers from time to time and the halbanaros...she likes those best.. People look as if you eat them and then explain it's for a parrot. :)

Once my son and I were at the zoo watching the macaws when a boy said to his mom"look at the parrots". The mom then told him in a very nasty tone "The sign says that's a macaw not a parrot!" I couldn't resist telling that kid he was right! His mom wasn't too happy with me, but he looked pretty proud of himself.
