Unhappy Emergency!!! Need Advice Urgently!!

We just melted the plastic knob on top of teakettle. Burnt plastic fumes in house. Opened windows & turned on fan but husband didnt take birds outside or next door - didnt think it was "so bad"!!! I was elsewhere in house and didnt know till too late.

I know this kind of thing can kill them.
How long before I know??
And is there anything at all that I can do to mitigate the damage at this point??

Also it still can be smelled, ven though the windows and door are wide open. Should I take them out of the house now? Or is it too late to matter??

Need advice please!
Moderators or other very knowlegable folks: You can call collect me with advice - 510-548-4516 Alyce or Steve Johnson. Thank You

Alyce:

If your birds were gonna crash and burn, it would have become apparent by now. I would continue to air out the house, however and do whatever you have to do to keep your birds warm enough. Usually when toxins fill the air it causes the air sacs to rupture and then the birds succumb within a few minutes. If your birds aren't panting or falling to the bottom of their cages, you should be alright. In any event, there is nothing you can do to reverse the damage if there is any.

Good grief, Alyce! Thank God everything turned out okay for you and your fids. Sure is a reminder to those of us who share our homes with these wonderful creatures, isn't it?
