What to do, what to do....

What do you do when you and your significant other disagree about what the next bird should be?? Even though we're a ways away from getting our next fid, we still talk about it every day since I'm endlessly reading about different things and sharing my details with him.

Hubby and I already have a little zoo going on here and the way that *I* see it is that we will bring home one more bird in the future and stop there. However, I can see this snowballing and ending up with a bunch of birds since we currently can't agree on what to go with! Not that a bunch of birds wouldn't be great, I just worry that time would become an issue and that we wouldn't have enough time to spend with all the animals, both furry and feathery.

I am set on a parrot, a midsized to large parrot such as an African Grey, an Eclectus, or a Pionus.

Hubby wants something smaller, such as a cockatiel or a conure (GC preferably as the Sun and Jenday are quite loud, or so I read). For some reason I'm not a fan of cockatiels. I have heard how wonderful they are, yada, yada, yada, but I don't see cockatiels in a petstore, for example, and think "I want one of those!" I'm all about a larger parrot for some reason. While conures are definitely cute, I would like something a little larger. But I wouldn't be thoroughly opposed to a GC conure..

Of course hubby went to a petstore today on his way home from work and went and held all of the cockatiels and conures - Lara, he went to the Talmadge PSP, were you there today? He is also interested in caiques, although I have not done much research on those yet so I haven't been able to form much of an opinion on them.

While we do have plenty of time to hash this out, I'm not sure how to sway him into wanting one of the birds on MY list

That's good to know. My next project is to do some research on them. Are there any particular disadvantages to note about caiques?

I have a solution!!! He can pick a bird for himself, and you can pick on for yourself!!!

just 1 think to keep in mind. it's much easier maintaining a peaceful household with birds all the same size. You don't have to worry as much about them hurting eachother. Not that they won't either way, but usually won't be life threatening.

That being said, I love my little guys and my new Ekkie! I just have to be a better parront!

Caiques and Pionus' both have a dense feeling to them. My BH pionus is smaller than a Timneh but very dense with feathers and a Caiques feet are different than other birds, more steardier

Just a suggestion from the crazy rescue girl:

Why don't you find a local avian rescue and see what birds they have there waiting to be part of a family again. You and hubby might have a very easy time agreeing on the same bird when you know that it was dumped by former owners for whatever reason.

Are you sure it would be a good idea to force the issue by swaying him to your list? I also think that each of you getting what you personally want is the best solution.
