i use aviator harnesses. they dont have all the heavy metal clasps that the birds can open, and its got an elastic cord so when they reach the end of the leash, they dont get jerked back suddenly and injure themselves. i try it out on our diff macaw babies, and since they are so young, i have no problems putting them on :)

Lightbulb Harnesses

I make my own harnesses for my Parrotlets since I have never seen any that fit such a small bird. If you start using a harness when they are young you have less problems getting the bird used to it.

Charlie has two flight harnesses (one petite, one small). He first wore one when he was 12 years old (now a year later, he's 13). He at first picked at it, and tried taking it off... and that's what he'd do if I took him on a walk. I got tired of him picking at the harness, so while on a walk I'd "bounce" him, making him having to concentrate on something else. Within a short period of time, he started ignoring the harness and watching what was going on around him... Now, he's great on the harness, so long as we are outside! If we are inside, it's "Get this thing off me NOW!".

I tried the petite harness on two tiels, but one completely freaked out, and the other, although freaked out, was easier to put on her... I only tried once with both... so neither one are used to it...

Maxie wears an aviator harness. No buckles to unsnap. I played around with an old dog leash, wrapping it around her. When she got comfortable with that, I just put the harness on her and away we went! She is 9 years old.

Conrad has a small feather tether and he hates it. I've only been able to get it on him once, and he didn't even let me connect it properly. He does love to chew on it though, as long as it's not on him. I keep trying though, I'm hoping one day he won't mind wearing it.
