Woman does 'mouth-to- beak' to save chicken

Exotic bird Boo Boo was found floating face down in family pond

Updated: 9:57 a.m. ET Feb. 8, 2006

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. - Sometimes a chicken does have lips, just not her own. Marian Morris saved her brother's exotic chicken, Boo Boo, by administering "mouth-to-beak" resuscitation on the fowl after it was found floating face down in the family's pond.
Morris, a retired nurse, said she hadn't had any practice with CPR in years, but that she was interested to see if she "still had it."
"I breathed into its beak, and its dad-gum eyes popped open," Morris said. "I breathed into its beak again, and its eyes popped open again. "I said, 'I think this chicken's alive now. Keep it warm.'"
Morris said she was pleased to find that the bird she saved was an "exotic," and not just an ordinary chicken.
The chicken is called Boo Boo, because she is easily frightened. The family thought Boo Boo was startled and flopped into the pond.

What a cute story ! I saved a baby bird from our pool after the hurricanes tore down the screen. Luckily it didn't need mouth-to-mouth ! I also read a story recently where a shih-tzu pup was saved by cpr after its leash was caught in an elevator door and went up

What a cool story. Usually it's just chicken to mouth.
Glad Boo-boo is alive and well, the big chicken, lol.

That is a cool story!

We had a kitten once that choked on a scrap of chicken. By the time my dad heard me screaming outside, ran back in to get tweezers, and got to the kitten- he wasn't breathing anymore. He pulled the chicken out with the tweezers and then gave him mouth to mouth. We renamed him CPR after that. CPR lived until the age of 3 when he got hit by a car.

My dad has actually had a lot of practice with CPR...he had to do it to my mom once as well.

That was a cute story....
Thanks for sharing.
George actually tried mouth to mouth on Sampson as he was dying in my arms. We knew it wouldnt work, but I think it was George's last ditch effort to try to save him. I think it was his Army instincts or maybe fatherly instincts kicking in.

I'm glad little boo-boo is fine!
