Spix Macaw breeding in the Middle East

Someone mentioned this at the Parrot Society last night and I went googling for it.

http://alwabra.com/awwp/expbreeding.php#b8

They are trying to save as many endangered species as they can. They are in Qatar and a quick look through the website shows they aren't open to the public. I will be in Dubai in June for a couple days which is close, I would love to interview them for Birdboard. I will try..............

And if anyone gets the chance to read this book I can only highly recommend it.

If I am not mistaken from largest to smallest as far as the "Blues" go it is:
Hyacynth
Lears
Glaucus
Spix

I am not 100% sure on that though

They are just slightly smaller than the red front macaws... though probably not as bulky in body size... probably a bit slimmer.... Like comparing a lovebird and a budgie... One is slimmer in size than the other...

(there were no pics that I could find immediately that show a human holding a spix, so just imagin a blue bird slightly smaller than this one, and probably slimmer too!)

I agree with Mike, that is my favorite picture too!! I am so happy that there are people out there that are actually trying to help this beautiful species survive! Seems their breeding program is doing well! Does anyone know the current population of Spix macaws?
