if we are just wiping down a cage, we get a spray bottle and mix hot water with some orange tko, spray the cage, leave it alone for a few mins and just wipe everything down. but if we are gonna really clean the cage, we take the birds out, take teh cages to the bathtub, wash them in hot soapy water, sometimes mix a little bleach in, and just scrub and rinse thouroughly. bleach is ok as long as your house is well ventelated and you make sure you rinse all the bleach off. but usually the hot soapy water will take all the poo off and kill the germs.

Hey the peroxide worked great! it is a disinfectant so it is a good thing to clean surfaces,as long as you don't use it full strength on skin so great news!!!

There must be a comment that was deleted because Cbalvino...the only mention of peroxide is in your comment. Was there a good post about the use of peroxide?

Surprisingly no one has mentioned vinegar. Even diluted, it's a wonderful and nontoxic cleaner.

I use vinegar and water, no harmful residue and cleans anything. Our cages won;t fit out the door, much less a bath tub LOL! I wish I could, so once a month I pull out the steamer and get all those nooks and crannies LOL!

I had never seen the TKO before, but this is on thier web site, the msds sheet it says wash skin immediately if contact, flush eyes, vapors can cause problem in higher quantities, to wear non-porous rubber gloves, and that the vapors can ignite.

I am not so sure I would use it on my cages, based on reading that. I think I will stick to vinegar.
