Valentines for our Birds

I thought this would be a cool idea. The birds can't read but we can so how would you express your love for your birds?

Dearest Tiki, Manu, Koro, Maui, Manea, Rangi, Shaka, Tattoo, Rima, Chaska, Tjinimin and Manikay;

You guys are literally the light of my life. You make even getting up in the morning an enjoyable experience with your cheerful chirping. You wolf whistle at me, no matter how bad I look. You can make me laugh even when I am depressed. You taught me the meaning of unconditional love-both giving and receiving. You gave me an appreciation of all birds, especially parrots and taught me that birds have feelings too. I can't express how much you guys have enriched my life. It is because of you that I met other wonderful people who share my passion for birds and are now my very best friends.

I can't imagine my life without you, beloved Fids. I love you all more than I can say and although you haven't said it in English yet, I know you love me too!

When i try think of why am infatuated with you 4 i cannot find a reason. You poop on my floor, furniture, and clothes as you wish, you find it fun to destroy any papers that i have laying around regard less if they are important, anytime i get some extra fun money i decide to spend it on toys for you, i spend a quite a few hours a week cleaning up after you, I can't have anything "nice" displayed around the house and if i do it more than likely has a V-shaped notch out of it, I have to have my house child-proofed as if a 2 yr old lived here, I dont get to sleep past 8am on the few days i get off a month, most of my grocery bill is fruits and veggies for you, i have "permadust", I drive 1.5 hrs one way to take you to the vet and walk myself 1.5 blocks to go to the doctor, every morning i take time to make you breakfast and clean and refill all you dishes as i grab a cold pop-tart on my way out the door,my phones and remotes are all missing button, and i constantly have to try to explain to my friends and family "Why i devote my time, money and energy to "some birds"?" But i will do anything for your well-being no matter how big or small.

Finally, living with you for the last couple years has reminded me of one of my favorite quotes: "If i am good i could add years to my life, i would rather add some life to my years" and you are the ones that have added that life to my years that only a "bird person" could understand.

Dear "Good Bird",

I never knew I was a bird person until I adopted you. I always thought that I wanted a "talking bird" but once you came into my home I learned that your "talking" was a small fraction of who you are.

You make me smile and laugh every single day with your antics--whether you are hanging upside down trying to tease the cats or hanging upside down in your cage before bedtime saying "Goodnight Scarlett! Goodnight."

I work harder for you than I do for my cats, my foster puppies, or even myself. I cook more for you, I clean your things better--suffice to say, I'd do just about anything for you and enjoy the effort I put forth. In fact, you are just so amazing that I'm afraid to adopt another bird for fear that they will not measure up to you!

Thanks for bringing extra happiness into my life, sweet redhead girl.

I can't express how much I love you. Your crazy antics and funny noises never ceaze to amaze me. Palmer, your jokes always make me laugh. Freddie, I am honored that you choose to crawl down to me and no one else. Hopefully, someday i'll be able to scritch your neck.

And Aree. Aree, aree, aree. My little green baby. You are my joy, my sunshine, my life. Your sweet imitations of the greys always make me laugh, especially since your voice is so high compared to theirs! Although you may not "talk" yet, I don't care. I love you just the same.

My Darling little Humphrey -
Martin and I love you so much. You are the light of our lives and we woudl do anything for you. When I come home from work, I walk from the train station and look into our window, and I see you and Martin together on the sofa, and I can't wait to come in and be with you both.

I didn't know anything about you when I paid your ransom at the horrible petstore where I found you. But my sweetheart - now I love you so much I'd give you a kidney if I had to!

Your sweet little nares, your sweet seedy breath, and they way you snuggle up to me sometimes - it means the world to me. Martin loves you too. As I write this you have flown over to me, walked onto my laptop, and started gently beaking my fingers.

Though you have passed on, not a day goes by that I do not appreciate the love we shared. You opened my heart and mind. Since you were in my life I now take a moment to stop and notice, appreciate the world God created for us. Trees, squirrels, flowers, birds. I know we were both meant to be together for the short time we shared. You flew into my hair that day and said "take me, I need to learn love". Nobody claimed you.
