Jim.......Do those fixtures you just mentioned have the electronic ballast, hold two light tubes, have a downward reflector and an on/off switch and a 3 pronged electrical cord that one can simply stick into a wall outlet or extension cord vs. hard wiring it in?....If so, that is great.. When I purchased mine, Home Depot did not carry them and I had to special order everything which was delivered by UPS......Are your $8 tubes the same ones I mentioned and does that $8 include shipping and tax? Cool if it does as I could never find them that cheap, unless I ordered a box of 25 tubes from Phillips......

Joel...thanks for all of the valuable info. I will look into lighting for my birds at a later time. Regarding the morality of that decision...well that's an entirely separate topic. Rest assured that when they were checked by the vet recently, all of my birds were healthy and vibrant. I'll try the water bottle method and introduce different types of nests into Miss Perch's cage.

Just an update:

Three days ago, Miss Perch finally figured out how/where to build her nest. I came home from work the other day and there was a beautiful nest inside the small bowl that I placed inside the water dish (I tried to trick her). A week ago, I placed Turbo in her cage full time. That seemed to accelerate things. He's been feeding her and courting her but is also still very tame towards me. I let him out in the mornings and evenings and he sits on my shoulder and preens me. During the day, he takes care of Miss Perch.

Yesterday morning, she laid her first egg. Unfortunately, she was sitting on one of her perches when this happened and the egg broke after she dropped it. This morning, she laid another egg. This time, I placed some rolled up toilet paper beneath her. When she dropped the egg, it fell softly into the toilet paper. I then placed the egg into her nest and saw her sitting on it shortly afterwards. She seems to be a little "slow", but it's probably because this is her first time. I'm sure she'll ge much better as she gains more experience.

Joel-

Can you get those hanging fixtures in a 36 inch length? I've looked everywhere and can only find 48 inch.
