my birds love car rides!! sometimes we take them to stores with us too, if they allow pets. if your bird is used to you and bonded with you, this should not be stressful. you could try using a carrier, and once you get inside the car and close the doors, you could try putting him on a window perch and see how he does with that :)

Most birds are OK with car rides and I've successfully taken birds on cross-country moves. I wouldn't advise a 3-hour drive 5 times every week, but doing it once in a while ought to be all right as long as the bird seems comfortable in the car AND at work.

My bird loves car rides as well. However, I notice that you're in PA...I would be very cautious as the weather turns colder. I'm in Ohio and starting to be selective when I let Kiwi accompany me...I just don't want her getting chilled.

My bird sits on my shoulder when I drive and looks out the window. He loves car rides.

Both of my Conures enjoy going for rides. Generally when I take them out, it is about 2 to 2.5 hours total (round trip) and they sit on my shoulder or the back of my seat and look out the windows. Generally it takes a few minutes for them to get used to the other cars going by etc but once they realize they are safe, they both seem to really enjoy being out and about. Of course I always have a cage in the back seat and make sure they are in it before I open the door or window (for any reason).

Obviously lots of birds have different temperaments so you should be careful if the bird is loose that is doesnt panic and fly around - it would be bad if it landed down at your feet and got under a pedal (brake or accelerator).

Maybe you should take a few short test drives when there is little traffic and see how he reacts before you commit to a long drive (not to mention the ride back).

I also take them with me occasionally when I go to petco or petsmart for supplies (I have a mid-sized cage that is easy to take but also gives them enough room to move around) - they are always nervous at first but after a few minutes seem to enjoy looking around and the change of environment (so long as I am always within arms reach of them).
