if you look in the food thread in Bird Recipes, I posted a link to an article from LOV about spirulina and its connection to toe-tapping and wing-flipping in ekkies.

Spirulina

My response to that word is that it's good not only for birds, but for humans. Not only spirulina, but wheat grass (another green wonder) are very beneficial to avian and human health...

Never heard of the other item, I'll have to look it up.

Jim, I'm sure you read this on the eclectus connection but I thought it was worth sharing with everyone.

From Carolyn:
Quote:
Many pellets contain artificial coloring, preservatives, and other chemicals, as well as spirulina, which over-stimulates some sensitive Eclectus. For those Eclectus, which includes members of my own little flock, spirulina causes hyperactivity, and sometimes toe tapping and wing flipping. Although some parrots can assimilate pellets without a problem, it has been my experience that spirulina is too stimulating for many Eclectus. Before you offer spirulina to your birds, why not try an equivalent amount on yourself? I tried it after I realized it was causing my birds a problem, and felt as though I had consumed twenty cups of coffee. It was not pleasant.

yes I did. I was just hoping to find people who had used it as one of the folks that answered my feed questions elsewhere really pushes it. As I am prone to making "Oh WOW that sounds great!!!" decisions I wanted to be a little more "scientific" and gather as much data as I can find and so far it seems like this stuff is just too iffie......
