Question Going to build a playgym today...

Hi guys. I'm going to Home Depot this afternoon to get some PVC pipe and will attempt to build my fids a playgym. What type of glue should I use? Also, what is the name of the tape-meshy stuff that goes over the PVC so the fids can hold on without slipping? Where would I purchase the tape stuff? Any pointers would be much appreciated!

I used regular PVC glue making sure that it ONLY goes on the inside of pipes. Its called vet wrap and I got mine at Petsmart in the Horse section. :) about $1.89 a roll.

I screwed my PVC gyms together with SS hardware- the safest way you can do it, and if you ever need to take it apart for some reason (travel, move, etc.), it's simple to do. Once you glue it, you're done.

Vetrap can also be purchased at vet clinics. It comes in 2 different sizes and several different colors. Make sure to stay away from Coflex, and other -flex brands as they tend to bleed and get sticky when wet.

wow...........ya know it never dawned on me that I might want to take it apart one day........and you are right, screwing it together would even be easier then it was making sure there was no glue on the outside of the PVC.

I screw mine together too. I try to place the hardware UNDERNEATH the pipes so that they don't spend all afternoon trying to remove it.

Well hey now...in all my posts about my gyms I said I screwed them together! It just seemed to make the most sense, IMO. Maybe you could soak the joints in something to loosen the glue?? Just an idea in case you ever need to take it apart, that probably isn't even possible.

In Ollie's big gym, the frame is the only thing screwed together, and it is able to come a part still in 3 pieces without having to unscrew it. That way it can still be transported in smaller pieces, or if I need to, completely taken apart.

Jim, now you know for your next gym! Because I'm telling you, once you start building you get addicted!

ROFLMAO.........so true so true...........actually the new style PVC glue is pretty easy to break the joint with a solid twist.

Hmmm - we don't use anything to keep them together - we simply hammer them together with a rubber mallet. Since the weather here is so unpredictable, I am always unassembling and assembling, depending on which room I have to take the gym too!
Please post pictures of your finished product!
