back from the breeder...w/pics Sophie n sis

ok, I heard tales that Eclectus live to eat but I had NO idea! When Sophie came home from the breeder she weighed in at 434g. Aweek later down to 414. Two days after that at the vet, 417g. Today at the breeders........446g!!! I guess she is eating eh?

I didn't realize that Sophie (on the right in the pics) was bigger then her sis. Sophie didn't like me being the one getting her from the cage....suddenly she wasn't so excited about seeing her sis. On the perch tho there was the chatter of hello. I sure hope somebody comes and gets her sis. She is surrounded by Greys!!!

Jim, it could be the fact that you are weighing her on different scales. When I got Charm he weighted 280 at the breeders, 2 weeks later he was 214 at the vets and I just had him weighed at the breeders again yesterday and he was 274.

That is a very good question on scales... Wonder if it has anything to do with the type of scale it is? Noel normally weighs 150-160 grams, sometimes a little heavier. At the vets its the same.

the first two weights and the last one (434,414,446) were all with the same scale.

What about time though? Ollie consistenly weighs around 430 first thing in the morning. I have weighed her in the afternoon/evening, and she weighs around 465. By next morning, she is down to 430 again. They can gain a LOT during the day, but it's not actual grams they are packing on...

totally by chance all weigh ins have been done at 12:30 PM except the vet visit was at 9:30 AM. Breeder opens at noon on Saturday and Sunday.....

The only thing with that though, is that as the days go on, she is more than likely getting more comfortable in her new surroundings and probably eating more before noon than she used to! That is why it is best to weigh first thing in the morning before they eat anything, right after their big morning deposit!

It does seem that she has gained some weight though, and that is great!

the weight gain is suposed to happen. My little girl (yeah right) still has some growing to do. As she is an Aru Red Sided (?? I guess that means a big one) she will be close to 500 grams when full grown. Poor Zoey tries to eat when ever she sees Sophie eat and she just can't keep up!!
