My Fridge!!!
I really hope I'm not alone in this!! I was fixing Spencer's dinner this evening, and I noticed something quite sad. There is more food in my refridgerator for him than there is for me. I have veggies that I don't even eat (never have) all cut up and in ziploc bowls. I went to the grocery store tonight. Yeah, I got myself some things. But, the majority of the items were for Spencer. Is there something wrong with this picture?

I only gets worse. My refrigerator is brimming with fresh things and the deep freezer in the basement has 3 of 4 shelves devoted to my birds. With 10 birds and me shopping every other week, we humans often eat out or have exactly what the critters are having.

Don, my fridge is the same way. And back at home on the farm my parents deep freeze is full of baggies of pasta mix, birdie bread, Zupreem biscuits....Ollie is set for quite awhile! She has a whole kitchen cupboard all of her own as well!

Same here. My sister comes over and says "oh you finally have food in your refrigerator and even better than that, your eating healty.".
I reply with "that's Rico's food. Mine's in the cupboard behind you, the fruit loops, the chocolate and the macaronni and cheese". I don't touch that crap in the fridge. |

While our fridge and freezer is pretty full of bird stuff, we have a 17 y/o son. More room is devoted to feeding him than anyone else! LOL! Also, the fridge and cupboards are well-stocked with things the dogs need/like--there are 11 of them, after all, and not nearly so many birds. Spouse and I never really know what _we'll_ be eating, 'cause rarely is there much in there for us :-). Dinner for the grown-ups is often cheese on toast, a bowl of soup, or a bit of chicken stir-fry (using stuff the birds will be eating, too).

What are you guys eating?! :)
The easiest thing in the world to do is braise, steam or stir fry veggies, and it's good for you! I hate grocery shopping so I have a box of fresh fruits and veggies in season delivered every Tuesday, I buy whole grain breads at the corner bakery (it smells better than the grocery store) and I only have to go to the store once a month to stock up on grains and other staples. It you don't eat right for yourself, think about doing it for your bird. Who's going to bake the birdie bread when you're laid up with a heart attack? Maybe we should start a section of family recipes - suitable for humans and their feathered companions. |
