Ingrid, how is Kally?

Ingrid,
How is Kally doing? Did you get the results of the tests yet? How are you doing?

Hi Regina, I was just going to post, but you beat me to it LOL thanks

I recieved the results back from the vet yesterday, this is what the specialist said,
FINAL DIAGNOSIS;
Ulcerative, crusting, heteropilic, dermatosis with fabroplasia/fibrosis
(which means nothing to me) LOL

Comments from the Specialist)
The histological changes could all be explained by self trauma and I dont see an underlying cause for the bird to be self traumatising.

So when I talked to the vet her said that the only other thing we could do for Kally is put a coller on her.

Since the operation so to say this is how Kally is doing.
1............we put her in a room with her cage
2...........we have a heat humidifier in the room( with the door closed)all day and night.
3...........we have taken her off of all pasta and white bread
4 ...........we have changed her diet to mainly all veg/fruit/assorted beans

Her stitches come out in one week and Alan will take them out, we dont want to take her back, because of the trauma.

Time will tell, but I will take her to an avain vet if this not not get better,

Thank you everyone for your well wishes.

Ingrid

HMMM Seems there is no organic reason for her to keep picking her feet and legs.

I would think that if it were diet related, she'd be itchy all over and be pulling feathers everywhere. Just doesn't make any sense. I wonder if you could send you pathology report to an avian vet in your area for a second opinion?

Ingrid, you know, I was thinking about this yesterday. This is probably a very stupid question but, does Kally still have a leg band on? I was wondering if she might be allergic to the metal? I know it's stupid because why the problem with both legs? But might get us thinking in a different direction.
Another idea, could it be something like gout? I'm not very familiar with gout but doesn't it cause reactions and pain in your feet? Help me here, not sure where I'm going with this, just trying to think of every possibility.
Oh, what about bumblefoot? This wouldn't explain her legs though.

Lara:

Gout and bumblefoot are obvious upon viewing. And, the bloodwork would certainly show the crystals that gout produces. Its neither of those.

Actually Nancy, both Alan and I were talking about that last night as a matter of fact and we both think that when I make an appt, with the Vet in Calgary that I will bring this along....this Vet charged me $599.00 for this, and I was talking to a friend of mine last night and she said that even an avain vet would not have charged that much.........not sure????
Today she is actually doing quit well, really no picking, and the legs seem to be a little better..........lets just hope eh??

Regina,
As of today (Sunday) she is doing quit well, she has a few dry spots on her legs but they actually look really good
She has been picking at her stitches a little today, but on an average she is doing very well.
Thanks
Ingrid
