Atlanta Bird Show

Just got back from the Bird Fair in Atlanta. I was hoping to meet Tamaran. We had a few pm's and she was planning on being there today. We had made no definate plans, though. We were there before 10 and gone by 11:30. Hubby got upset because some of the vendors were not treating their birds as well as they should have. There were lots of young blue and golds. The most interesting bird I saw was a Major Mitchell's cockatoo. It was the first one I'd ever seen. I took out my camera to take pictures, just to discover that my batteries were dead . She was about 1 y/o and she was in good feather. I was fascinated by her. Don't worry, we aren't planning on adding any more feathers for a while. The price was a little out of my range too. $3000. I would have loved to stay longer, but Hubby wasn't up to it.

I didn't make it! I was going for a few new perches but went to Michaels instead and bought some dowels and made my own. Maybe next time.

The MM's are beautiful, aren't they? The price tag is a bit high though!

Hey Kim,

Sorry I didn't get back with you on your email last night. We were waiting until last minute to see how my 13 year old daughter felt. She is one of those kids that get really sick, really fast. I put her to bed with her not feeling well and I told my husband before we decide to go for sure, lets see how she is in the morning. Well, this morning I had a child with 103 , and not in the best of shape. Good thing our doctor is our next door neighbor.

I would have loved the show and meeting ya'll but........
Oh well there always next time.

My husband said it was a blessing anyway. I have a birdy weakness. I really don't have the time or space for anymore, "YET"

BTW Kim,

There's this guy in Panama City that is always at the shows. He sells bags of toy parts at a REALLY good price. (way cheaper than I could make myself) I have lost his card and would love to buy some more parts for toys from him. Did you happen to know if he was there and maybe have a business card on hand with his contact info?

Usually, we pick up cards from all the vendors, but this time Hubby was in a hurry to go and I didn't get to do what all I like to do at bird shows. There were at least 2 vendors there with toy parts. We usually pick up those two headed screws that you use to attach perches to the cage bars. Sorry, I didn't get a card nor do I remember a name that you could do a Google search with.

My husband and I went to the show yesterday. We stayed about an hour or so. I couldn't believe the condition that some of those birds were in and the way that some of the vendors were treating them. One guy was taking a bird out of it's cage to show to someone and he grabbed it by it's neck and pulled it screaming out of the cage. He held it flipped over on it's back with one hand holding it around it's neck. He used his other hand to pull it's wing out to show the guy that was looking at the bird. All of this particular guy's birds were extremely obese and dirty. The cages were too small for the birds and they were disgustingly filthy. We left and I won't attend that bird show again. There was a little Hahn's that had no tailfeathers and it was almost bald from it's backside down...it was sitting on it's perch in the back corner of the cage and you could tell that the little guy was living a miserable existence. It was awful.
