Is this a rescue from a bad situation or a rehome of a bird from someone who no longer can or wants to care for it? Be aware that greys are very sensitive and tend to have hang ups if not handled well. Any bird who is changing from one living situation to another may have transition problems. If you are willing to be patient and accept the bird for what he/she is and be willing to work with the bird to improve it's diet and behavior and willing to provide whatever vet care may be needed, I encourage you to try to help the bird. If you have never had any experience with a parrot, a rehome/rescue may be biting off a little more than you can chew. It can be done, but it may take more than you realize to make it work. Find out as much as you can about the birds background. How old, any vet history, any behaviors that they know about(or are willing to share) such as biting, screaming, plucking, even self mutilating. Was the bird hand fed, what kind of diet he is currently on, just every thing that you can find out about the bird, BEFORE you commit to bringing the bird home. Then read, and read, and read everything you can find about african greys. They are a special bird, sometimes difficult to deal with even with the best of starts in life. So try to get as prepared as you can. I hope you have good luck with what ever you decide to do.
