'Today's Pet' and chains
I am a little upset, I went to a local mall and saw this petstore. I am not really okay with petstores being in malls period because of impulse buyers but this one really got me. First of all the place had too many animals (and people!) in such a small area. They sold everything from Too's (I even saw a Toucan there on two seperate occasions, did not look so happy the second) to sugar gliders to enormous turtles and kenal dogs/cats in *very* tight cages. If there is one thing I object to, its over crowding! I believe in simplicity and ballance.
Anyway, is there anything possible to do to help discourage this kind of thing? I felt so sorry for the poor things, and I don't let a lot of breeders (of many animals) of the hook for this. Also I've been hearing some horror stories from the budgie department from petco, where do main chains get their bird breeders from? How big is a U2's cage supposed to be anyway? I mean I can't help but look at petstores because I love to see the "pretty birdies" and other animals but sometimes they make me so angry! and in a MALL!!

Could you possibly file a complaint to the mall management? I know all the stores in malls have to follow pretty strict guidlines and if the management found out that their customers are unhappy about particular store they might look into it. Just a thought.

Write a letter
When I was mad at my local Petshop for being overcrowded and wretched to their animals, I wrote a letter asking them to stop. I wrote it to the head of all Petland stores in Calgary, and they whopped that store into place.
If they hadn't responded or ignored my letter, I would have marched right into the manager's office. If they didn't listen to me, I don't know what i'd do, but I wouldn't sit back and let those poor birds wallow in filth. I'm not saying all petstores are bad (and not trying to bring up the disscusion.) Simply saying that mine was. Thankfully they did listen, and now the birds are 'happy.' Write a letter or talk to the manager. I hate it when petstores get overcrowded or dirty. NO bird (or animal!) should have to live like that. *Sigh*...

Anytime you find anything disturbing at any Petsmart, simply send off a letter to corporate. The address in on the Petsmart website. Be specific using location, time and the name of the store manager on duty. They really do care about their public image. Don't complain, DO SOMETHING CONSTRUCTIVE. Write the letter. Do it now.
