Scarlett for show and tell?

Long story short, my supervisor was asking me about Scarlett and I was explaining about Eclectus coloring, it's purpose, etc. Gave her some other unsolicited info about birds and even played her some of my sound clips of Scarlett on my cell phone. at the end of the conversation I said "I have been trying to think up a good excuse to bring her in one day. I am trying to come up with a way to connect it to something." She said "I think what you just taught me was great and I'd say bring her in." The principal okayed it too. (ok so maybe not so short!)

I was going to bring her in towards the end of the year when we do the Animal Kindgton and Class Aves--but my morale has just been so low the last few weeks I thought I might bring her in this week for part of my discussion on evolution.

Here's the deal:
I teach 2 periods in a row, 40 min break, 2 periods, 40 minute break, 1 class, 40 minute duty. She is clipped and cannot fly more than a few feet. We have blinds that can be drawn down so she doesn't get any ideas about the windows. My students know that I don't tolerate any crap from them so I don't have any fears that they would try to harm her or something like that.

Is it an absolutely horrible idea to bring her in for the day? Am I just asking for trouble?

I think its a great idea! Simply build a T stand out of PVC and a patio umbrella stand (plastic, you fill them with water) and her bird carrier. She'll have fun. Ingrid takes her Kally to school with her and the kids really get a kick out of it. My Ekkie made many pre-school appearances and loved little kids. I think you teach high school, so that won't be quite the thrill (big applause when parrots poop in pre-school), but I think that Scarlet will really like her outing.

Yes I do teach high school Biology. I'm sure she will get a huge round of applause if she craps on me.

She can be quite a ham when she knows people are checking her out so I think she'll enjoy it.

Thanks for the input. I'm happy to hear that I'm not nuts for planning to bring her in.

Heck, I used to drag Mai Tai, Margarita and Chi Chi to school. It took some advance planning, but its really fun. Here is a photo taken of me about 4 years ago at my granddaughter's preschool. I would take the parrots to school when the were learning the letter "P".

You'll notice I'm wearing a nurse's smock. I highly suggest you picking one up at Goodwill. They can really save your good clothes on these kinds of outings. The more busy the print, the less noticable the poop.

Lissa, what kind of Macaw is that in the picture? a hybrid? Nevermind, I'm an idiot and I saw that its a Harlequin.

Outlaw, you're brave for bringing in 3 at once! I think I'll have my hands full watching Scar and hoping that none of the kids try to teach her any colorful vocabulary!

Lori:

Lissa's Koko is one of the most beautiful macaws I've ever seen. He is a second generation harlequin, and quite rare. That means he's the offspring of two harlequins. Original harlequins are produced by crossing a BG and a GW macaw. One of the reasons second generation hybrids are rare is that many hybrids are sterile. So, its hard to pair of two and get any offspring.
