When I'm not at home, I leave the radio on for the birds. It's usually set to a country music station. Jerry just loves music so this way they can hear music and the talking on the commercials. Sometimes I also put an audio book on for them.

When I only had one bird (a budgie also), I tried a few different CD's with birds chirping. My budgie would try and call out to the birds when he heard them and would dart around his cage looking for the other birds. I kind of thought it was sad for him to be calling out to these other birds, expecting them to answer him when they were not actually there. I only played the sounds when I was away. I would also leave the tv or radio on for him when I was not playing the bird sounds.

In the end, I decided it was better to get him a real live companion.

Two females don't normally mix well, unless you have a VERY large cage (2' x 2' min wouldn't be large enough for two females) or you got the females at the same time. Heck, even a female could bully around a male....

You could get a male to put with her, they wouldn't breed unless you set a nesting box up.

My Humphrey gets upset when she hears other birds on the television. If you spend a lot of time with your bird, you will be a good friend for her. If you get another bird, yours might not bond with you as quickly.
Do you spend all day at work or school, away from the bird? REgardless of the answer, you should give your bird a few hours of attention every day. Even if you are in front of the computer, once your bird is tame, he can sit on your lap.. or while you watch tv he can sit on your lap while you pet his head. All of this counts as quality time. Quality time is also training him to step up, maybe do a trick or two...

Tell us more about your lifestyle & time with the bird.

Is he settling in a little better?

My mother had a pair of budgies that had babies even though she never provided any type of nest or box. This was years ago when I was still living at home. I'd be afraid of risking it. Has anyone else had this happen?

Yeah, it was quite a surprise because we didn't think that was supposed to happen!
