overweight birdie?

i bought a gram scale and weighed the litttle kids today...

I am very happy with Lilys weight.... since she is very healthy at 45 grams, and is extremely active, and eats her fresh food like a good little birdie.

Gummy bear?? He should weigh about 55-70 grams... but that fatso? He's 85 grams!! :eek

lol... seriously, out of the 12 hours he's awake,he probably eats during 6 of 'em!!! and the other 5 is busy napping, and one is fighting with lily!!

Does anyone else weighs their birdies?

I occasionally weigh my birds, though depending on the bird depends on how often I weigh it. There are two I'd rather not handle if I don't need to becuase they are "wild" and one could easily hurt herself. Gummy could be a large built bird, but if you can feel that he is overweight, you may want to limit the amount of seeds/pellets that he gets, and consider giving him some Milk Thistle.

I currently have a budgie that looks overweight but he just has a larger body build than most others. I also have a cockatiel that I consider overweight (last weighed she was 120g! She should be 90-100) and have been trying to figure out how best to modify her diet without giving too little (she currently lives with two female bourkes). Thankfully though, she loves fresh food!

As a rule, I weigh monthly of more often if anyone loses any significant weight. Only one of my birds is underweight. I acquired my GW in January and she's been sick with a nasty bacterial infection. She is easily 100 grams lightand came to me sick She will finish up her meds tomorrow and hopefully I'll be able to pack some weight on her then.

Weighing your birds monthly is often the first indicator of illness. I have been weighing my birds for 6 years now.

I weigh my birds weekly, at least. I will weigh Marley (my Grey) every couple of days just to make sure that he's still where he should be. I also think that average weights are just that...average. Or generalities. My Hahn's weighs less than what most folks say that a Hahn's should weigh, but that's because he's smaller than most Hahn's. He's just a little bird and he is very healthy.

Cherry heads are said to be around 200 grams... Mine is 150-160 and not underweight. It's easier to find out what weight your bird would normally be without being underweight or overweight. It's hard to say exact weights of what the birds should be because some are just bigger or smaller than others...

Bob weighs 991 grams. He is 8 months old, and very, very active. I hope this is a good weight?
