I'm sorry for your loss. How tragic. Do you have any idea what specifically caused it? Is there a suspect toy?

I'm still waiting for the toxicology report..............I suspect it was a triangle clip on a toy as Baby Doodles was on the bottom of the cage Monday morning along with this toy.....I checked the very bottom of the cage and found only half of the triangle clip.....Metal did show up in his gizard on radiograhpy; however, he stomach was enlarged. The vet vasilated back and forth between a foreign object or PDD.....Unless the dilatation of the stomach was caused by a secondary infection from zinc poisoning.....I thought I was a good MOM and need to found out what caused it as I have 2 African Greys and a Panama Amazon.....Still having a hard time getting over this....The wouldda shouldaas are getting to me......

I'm so very sorry for the loss of your bird. I posted a couple of months ago about a similar problem I had with toys bought at a large retail pet store. I noticed his weight loss and change in droppings and took him to the vet and was told that it was heavy metal poisoning. I was dumbfounded and couldn't believe I had been so careless to let him get into something like that. My husband checked his play place and was the one to point out the connectors on these toys that had only been in his play place for a couple of weeks. I threw every toy I had ever bought away and now make my own toys. Maybe your sad story will help educate the public that just because you buy it doesn't mean it's safe. My story was happier because my baby survived but I totally understand the pain and betrayal that you feel. Again, condolences and my prayers are with you.

Heavy Metal Poisoning

Thank you, that is sooo sweet to share with me and I'm so glad your bird made it. Is your bird a Cockatoo? I keep beating myself up for letting him go through surgery. He was doing better with treatment; however, the vet was curious abouth the enlargment of his stomach and did surgery, he never really came out of the anesthesia...
