my Mom is from South Texas where it gets dry as dust and the ground cracks. my Grandfather had something like this hooked up to his washer to water the yard and his orange trees. he used to catch the devil for watering his grass when they had water restrictions, but he would take them out to his garage and show them his set-up. it consisted of a 50 gal drum with a spigot on the bottom that his washer pumped out into. he just put a hose on the spigot bottom and went out to water the yard.

he had nice green grass and prolific oranges for years. don't know if the new owners of his house kept the set-up or not. but he had it for about 50 years, my Mom could remember him having it when she was a young girl and shes 65 now!
