crash landing

Scarlett decided that bouncing around on her boing just wasn't enough fun this morning. She flew off of it and had a lovely crash landing that involved the kitchen table and floor.

Her beak bled a few drops and stopped. I felt all over her and inspected her (which she did NOT appreciate) and couldn't see anything obviously wrong--other than the blood. I put her back in her cage and realized that she can't move around in there now since she uses her beak to climb and it must hurt.

As I was watching her, I noticed that her breathing sounded a little crackly--almost like rustling plastic or something. She also is blinking fairly often which doesn't seem normal to me. It's like she almost can't keep her eyes open which could indicate a problem or just that she is tired and needs a nap.

I called her vet and they have no appointments for her today. I called the other vet hospital in the area who sees birds and their avian vet isn't in today.

So I called the 2 numbers that they gave me for other vets in the general area. They need to call me back since they have never seen her before.

I have a stomachache from worrying.

Poor you & poor baby . It is amazing what will go wrong in an instant -so sorry to hear about this after all your excitement. Maybe it isn't too bad & she's just a little 'dazzed'

Peeps did a similiar thing about a month ago. Only she was in her sleep cage and freaked out. She was doing the same thing with her eye, so I took her to the vet. Of course, as soon as she got in the vet's office she stopped doing it because she was too busy looking around. They gave her an eye exam and checked her over and she was fine. Hopefully, Scarlett is just fine. I'm sure you will keep us updated!

Did any vets call you back yet? How is she doing? How is her breathing?

the other places in this part of the state still haven't called back. The vet from the office she went to in the past did call me, though, and ask about her. Her breathing is back to normal and she isn't blinking/falling asleep anymore either. The only issue at this point seems to be that her beak hurts so she can't climb around her cage. He didn't think that I had to rush her to an emergency clinic or to the other places as long since she seemed to be back to normal for the most part.

So I have been going in there and moving her from place to place--comfy perch, food bowl, water, cement perch, etc. I'm going to put her fruits and veggies into the food processor so she will be able to eat them more easily.

She isn't chattering like she normally does but she does say hello to me when she sees me walking past her room.

I think I am far more upset about this whole thing than she is.

I think she's just got a bruised beak. You can't tell on ekkies because they are black, but it does sound that way. You are wise to process her food for a few days.

The innocent forget so quickly & luckily she didn't think it was your fault.

I'm happy to hear that Scarlett is better - her photo is so cute.
