Adventures in moving (or macaws gone wild)

Hi all! Sorry it's been so long since my last update, but some of you may remember we were (still are) moving into our new house this month. Ever tried to move a family of 4 humans, 32 animals, and 14 houseplants? Well, DON'T!!!

We're still not fully moved in. All the stuff is here, and we are all here, but we're still mostly living out of boxes at the moment. I do finally have some pictures for you guys to see but we don't have internet at the house yet (at my mom's typing this now) and to be honest, I have no idea where my camera and picture discs are at the moment. I'll post them as soon as life resembles it's normal chaos again.

Still, never think we aren't entertained daily by the the flock of feathered misfits that dominate this household. I've got a few antedotes to share with you.

The birds were out one day a couple of weeks ago and we were all in the kitchen sorting though boxes (help moving consisted of well meaning friends who thought it would be fine to just stack all of my 102 boxes in the kitchen, joy, joy) and I stepped out of the room for a moment and phone rings (yes I have phone service but no internet. I don't even want to go into *that*). So, I go back into the kitchen to find LOLA on the phone. As it was explained to me later by my evil children (the human ones), Lola was on the table where the phone was temporarily sitting and when it rang she jumped and evidently landed on the speaker button. This was the conversation before I reached the phone:

Caller: Hello?

Lola: HELLO!

Caller:Hello, who am I speaking with please?

Lola: Hello! Hello! Hi Lola!

Caller: Could I speak with Mr or Mrs Ownedbymacaws?

Lola: Pretty, pretty girl! Lola is a good girl! Hello, Hello!

Caller: Excuse me, could I talk to your mother?

Lola: MOM!!!(she copies the boys calling me) Her name was Lola with yellow feathers in her hair.....Hello! La, La, La, La!

Caller: Um, who is this?

Lola: SHHHHH! Lola sing. L-o-l-a, Lola, l-o-la, Lola! Hahahahaha!

At which point I rescued the caller who happened to be the electric company.
THe boys thought this was hilariously funny.

Then, a day or two later, I had a couple of the builders workers come by to fix a kitchen cabinet. Now we got new bedroom furniture (the old stuff was from Jack's bachlor days, it had to go!) and all my clothes were in boxes as well. Sam and Simon were out when the workers got there and were minding their own business, or so I thought, so I let them stay out. Suddenly one of the workers starts laughing. I look to see what's going on and naturally, these two had to find the one box that had my lingerie in it, opened it and were flinging my UNDERWEAR around the room. I hollered "SAM! SIMON!" Simon pops his head up out of the box, chunks a pair of silky red panties over his shoulder and says "WHAT MA?" (another phrase picked up from the boys) Then Sam, who had actually been in the box, hops back up on the edge with a black lace bra AROUND HIS NECK! (he wasn't choking, just wearing it) I was never so embarrassed! THe worker guys were still chuckling every time they looked at me when they left.

Then there was the tossing of the silverware, that same day. I had it all out, was polishing it before putting it away. Hannah and Bonnie were watching with great interest. I wasn't paying them too much attention and suddenly I got bonked in the head with a spoon! Next thing I knew, Mal, Sam, Simon, Lola (count on her to be where ever there is trouble) and Sunny were chunking it as well. They got me, two of the dogs, one of the boys, and then Bonnie tried to beat my african violet into submission with a case knife! It took me ten minutes to confiscate the eating utensils back from them because everytime I took one, two of the others grabbed more.

And last of all, Mickey has finally been allowed to be out with the rest of them. He's still nippy as ever, but so long as Jack's home, he seems to be controllable. So he's out and on the table. Devin's sitting at the other end of the table, eating toast with jelly. Mickey starts inching his way down there and everyone is pretty quiet and still because this is a big deal, him approaching someone other than Jack. Mickey stares at Devin,Devin stares back. After a few minutes, Devin shrugs and picks up a piece of toast. Can you see where this is going? Mickey lunges suddenly and my heart went to my throat because I thought he was about to bite Devin in the face. Instead, my son and my bird end up having a tug of war over the toast. So Devin gave him the first piece. He picked up the second, Mickey drops the first and grabs for that. Evidently no one but Mickey is allowed to have toast and Jelly. (and if your wondering, yes, Mickey got the toast)

Whew. I'm tired just reading all that. And I haven't even mentioned the great cat escape that was staged, the dogs digging up my brand new landscaped front yard, or the goldfish that thought he could breath air.

So what's new with you guys? Heh.

Dana!
I'm so glad to hear from you, and hear that Mickey and Mal are coming right along. Hey, toast and jelly is something to have a tug of war over. It sounds that those to have finally got themselves a real home. I'm so proud of you! Can't wait for you to find your picture disks and get to posting.

I'd love to hear it from the birds. I know its all part of a great master plan to sabotage the whole new house thing. They are rascals.

Dear Miss Nancy,

Shhh!!! Don't say that too loud or my Mommy might hear you! That would ruin all our plans!

We don't really want to sabatoge the new house though, we like it. All those square brown things in the kitchen are full of really cool things to play with and we haven't been though even half of them yet! And those brazilian cherry pocket doors to the dining room that Mommy keeps saying how beautiful they are and rubbing when she walks by them, well, they look really tasty and I can't wait to get my beak on them!

I also want to help her with her decorating a little. Won't she be surprised when we sneak into the living room and decorate that ugly ole beige carpet with some wonderful poopy stains? I tried to slip in there yesterday and get started on it but she caught me and said "No birdies allowed in this room." No birdies? Can you imagine? What kind of a room is that?

We did have some fun with her silverware though. I don't know what they use it for but it makes great bombs on those stupid dogs. Mommy keeps looking for her missing teaspoon but I hid it behind one of the big square brown things and I'm not telling her where it is. I'm saving it for a rainy day.

Of course, all us birds are a little put out right now because the dogs got their own yard to play in with a sandbox to dig in and a bunch of ropes on a pole to pull and all we've got is a bunch of plexiglass and metal piled up in the corner of the yard that Mommy keeps telling us is going to be our new aviary. Doesn't look like an aviary to me. And why did those stupid dogs get their play yard first, I'd like to know?

And did you know that ole bird Mickey got toast and jelly and no one even gave us any? He isn't even nice to the humans, won't give them kisses or anything. Hrmph.

I was talking to the little black thing the other day and it must have liked it because it was talking back to me and then she came in the room and took it away from me and started talking to it. I thought she was pretty stingy to do that. She just wanted to keep the talking thing all to herself.

Mommy says I'm a troublemaker but I don't know what she means. I'm just trying to keep everyone entertained and with the way they all laugh at me, I must be doing a pretty good job, huh?

Anyway, I've got lots of plans for this place. I'll be sure to tell my Mommy to keep you updated on them.

Squawkingly yours,
Lola the Lovely

P.S. Being a rascal is a good thing right?
