Rude bird rescue workers..Oh MY!

I live in FL and all my birds are rehomed babies who needed love.
So anyways..I keep up with the local rescues in the area and touch base with them...
I found a new one to me and contacted them about adoptions and what not.
The woman wrote this back to me
------
Hi ?

I am thrilled that you realize that these birds needs homes just as much as “new birds”, regardless of their limitations in terms of pet quality. However, I’m disturbed that you did not take the time to read the info on our website, as you would have found the “Steps to Adoption” page, which would have answered all your questions!
-------
Now mind you I DID read their steps for adoption but I still CONTACT the places for a couple of reasons.
A. I have dogs and some will not adopt out to people with dogs. I would rather know this before I go through all the motions
and
B. I would rather deal with rescues that are NICE and understanding that this is a big step.

Now I may be too sensitive and she may not have meant any harm..but I thought this was a bit rude..considering I was email to mention the animals in my home, my location and to find out exactly where they were at.

This woman's Abrasive nature probably scares off a lot of potential loving homes before the process even starts

The woman doesn't know you but undoubtedly deals with a lot of people who don't bother to educate themselves on a bird's needs. I would just tell her that you DID read the adoption procedures but had questions that were NOT answered in the FAQs. Her abusive attitude may be intentional. It could be used to "scare away" the "impulse" buyers and queries. But for those who seriously want to go forward, this would (or should) be a "minor" obstacle. After all, it's not the woman you want to adopt; it's the birds she's temporarily caring for. Don't take it personally.

Hmm that could be. I never thought about that..Though I did mention in my email that I have 2 rescued birds currently in the home.
The problem with FL is what rescue to go with though..and that is usually why I look around. We have so many options out there.
But thanks for the thoughts..it never occured to me that she may be trying to scare off fly by night owners.

LMAO i love getting emails from people that wont even include as simple as their name or contact info.
or the emails that just say i would like to rescue one of your birds Hahahaha (morons)

Or dear sir i have had parakeets for a month now and i feel i am ready for a macaw do you have any that i can adopt? i dont have much money so please let me know if they come with a cage.(that was a real email that i got last week from a total moron )

I get 15+ emails a day from people that expect me to deliver a macaw or too to their front door without them having to even provide basic contact imformation.

dealing with people like that gets old pretty fast and everyone that operates a rescue that adopts out has to deal with the same thing.

when dealing with a rescue dont expect too much because we arent saints, we are just people that care more about the animals than most people so we pick and chose who we adopt to on the information provided.

when you want to adopt then you have to provide the information that is required because no rescue worker wants to take the time to write a dozen emails to a dozen people just to get basic information when their time is already accounted for with taking care of the birds.(nobody wants to spend all day on the phone or computer with someone just to find out they have 3 small children and are on government assistance because they cant afford to feed their own kids(an example)

People dont understand that rescues are not required to adopt an animal to anyone and they can pick who adopts or deny anyone for any reason even if that reason is a gut feeling that that potential adopter is a scumbag.

try adopting a human baby sometime and see how far you get without providing the information they ask for(you will get nowhere fast)

If you dont follow the steps to qualify why would they waste their time?
every rescue has a screening process to weed out the unacceptable applicants.

Points taken Beaks & Wings. These are the reasons that I have kept 7 of the 11 rescues I have done in the last few years. I would have kept the others too but a person needs a small corner to eat and sleep in. Lol

Yes..I do suppose you get a lot of morons unfortunately I KNOW that to be true from some of the rescues I have done.
We never went through conventional means..as far as through a rescue as of yet..the guys we have were mostly word of mouth that I take in unwanted feathered friends.
But I do hear what you are saying totally.

I just dont have time to fool with people anymore unless they are totally honest and have their info ready when i ask for it because if they are serious about adoption they will take care of business like an adult should.

i just placed 11 birds this weekend with a friend that owns another rescue and before they picked them up i got another call for a too so i hooked them up with the owner and the bird has a good home now.

I also got a call to pick up 12 more birds from a guy that doesnt have the time to deal with them anymore, so who has time to sift through the emails that contain nothing but a bunch of begging(that is why i will probably let my friend take them as well so she can adopt them out, keep them or whatever)

I have about 10 tiels 6 budgies and 12 lovebirds that need homes but do you think anyone wants to adopt them? Nope, they want the big birds because they look cool.

It just makes me crazy when people talk a line of trash about a rescue that is just doing the best they can with what they have.

another thing people love to do is demand to have every question answered about how a rescue is operated but those same people will not donate a dime unless it is for a raffle ticket where they can try to win something.(i am going to have to hold another raffle just to help cover vet bills because thats the only way people will donate)

Thank god for the few people that have worked hard, donated raffle items and given donations to help with emergency care for birds like kahlua and jojo (you know who you are "love ya")

I suppose you have a right to your attitude about it Beak but many of us ARE serious..but I do not plan to give out all of information to someone I do not know and do not expect a nasty response when I ask a question..Especially when I mention I have 2 rescued parrots here now.
I am sorry you have a hard time adopting out the smaller species..all birds deserve a loving home..but giving that type of attitude to potential parents isn't going to get ya far.
I did end up filling out adoption forms...2 actually...I went with the two that understood why I was contacted them and answered my general questions.
Many of the forms want as much info as to adopt a child..I don't mind that..not at all but I want to be comfortable about who I give such sensitive information to.
So I suppose we see things from 2 different sides of the coin.
You can like me or not like me...that is your option..and really I don't care either way....If I have an opinion, I state it...and I have that right.

Oh and for the record my money is where my mouth is. I give to our local humane society that takes in birds and I give to 2 of our local rescues. Not everyone who has a question is a wanker that is not worth a couple minutes of your time.

I used to be a breeder of smaller birds and CAGs. I stopped breeding because people who wanted my birds were totally uninformed about their care. I would have introductions, such as:

1. I have seven cats but decided I want a bird too.

2. The stereo just fell on my bird. Do you have another?

3. My bird just flew away. Do you have another?

4. I put my bird on my daughter's bicycle and don't understand why he flew away.

etc etc

Then I get the other horror stories which I'd love to post but I don't think you'd ever be able to sleep again. (Stephen King has nothing on me!)

So, yeah, I start out crabby when talking with people about birds until I start to believe that maybe, just maybe, they have done some research.
