For all of those that think Alex has probably earned a rest and would rather donate to the fight against PDD instead of buying a lecture ticket for $100, please contact:
The Outlaw nrattigan1@comcast.net I have no problem with Dr. Pepperberg or her research, but I think there are other more pressing issues requiring a concentrated effort to SAVE all parrots.

I also support Dr. Branson Ritchie and his efforts to irradiate PDD.
He recently lectured at BHS, and was there with one of My Vets. My club supports the "grey poop on Challenge" and has for many years. Living with birds for 28 years, I have heard so many horror stories of PDD, and through the wonders of the internet, met parronts who have lost their babies to this horrible disease. The research needs to be funded by the people who truly care, BIRD PEOPLE. I would also post for Dr Ritchie if he was to be in my area. I did post on the old board his Buffalo lecture.

Thanks, Lisa. I didn't mean to imply that you wouldn't. It just makes me nuts with so many birds dying that more monies aren't funneled to PDD research. Alex has been an amazing subject for over a decade. I'm sure that what Dr. Pepperberg has learned has been invaluable. However, in the grander scheme, they have to LIVE to be able to learn.
If is horrifying when you really think about it. Its entirely possible that without a cure for PDD, that within 25 years, there could be NO living parrots anywhere. Between the loss of habitat in the wild and domestic disease in captivity, we are in a race for their very lives. THE OUTLAW
